Example projects include satellite passive imaging sensors, space and ground laser communications systems, and airborne laser radar and imaging systems on both manned and unmanned aircraft.

Job Description

The Systems Engineering Group seeks a student to assist staff members in Systems Engineering, Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, and/or Computer Science.  Example projects include imaging sensors, laser communications systems, and radar systems for airborne, terrestrial and space environments with an emphasis on small satellites and CubeSat applications.  Systems Engineering duties may include supporting payload architecture definition (optical, mechanical, electrical), generating system-level block diagrams (electrical and/or mechanical), environment hazard analysis of sensitive components, integration and test planning, and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) work.  Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering duties may include structural and thermal testing, design using SolidWorks, creating databases, and running software analysis codes.  Computer Science tasks may include creating system models, creating software analysis models and analyzing the results using Matlab.

The successful candidate should have at least a junior standing in their engineering or physics field.   Programs of study include Aeronautics/Astronautics, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or equivalent. One or more of the following experiences are preferred, but not required: CAD, computer programming (such as Matlab), and/or MBSE.  The length of a typical fall co-op term is 4-6 months.
