About the Program: 

The Harm Reduction Peer-Based Program is composed of a team with staff and over 20 peer contractors dedicated to providing harm reduction supplies and services. They work to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted and blood born infections (STBBIs), overdoses due to drug poisonings from tainted supply and the rapidly increasing new and dangerous analogues to fentanyl and benzodiazepines, and other harms related to sexual health and substance use. Supporting people with lived and living experience of substance use and/or sex work in our community. Drawing on their personal experience and additional training, peer contractors provide harm reduction and low-barrier, peer-based services. They engaged with the community to reduce the stigma these communites face, and also collaborate with other community members and peers to influence program design and implementation. 

 

As a Group Coorinator & Facilitator with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

Responsible to research and develop group support programs and related information for clients to encourage skill development in areas such as mental health, addictions, recovery, harm reduction and other related topics.

Develop, plan, and facilitate group workshops; identify client needs, determines content and structure and consults with clients and community partners to gather pertinent information. Interviews clients to gather background information and make referrals to other programs and/or services as required.

Collaborate with external agencies in the utilization of external facilitators.

Recruit, interview, place, and orientate and support volunteers to address these issues.

Evaluate program using information gathered by observation and with client feedback on issues such as group session effectiveness, material utilized and compiles feedback summaries. Prepares and maintains workshop materials.

Arranges group support programs; schedules sessions times and monthly calendar, books facilities, arranges for materials and audio visual equipment.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

Grade 12, Social Services Diploma or Certificate from a recognized Health Care Worker Program.Two (2) years recent, related experience in a mental health & addictions service setting providing group therapy to clients who have a variety of mental disorders and addictions issues as well as coordinating volunteer programs or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Valid B.C. Driver’s License may be required as local area travel may require the use of a vehicle and will be listed on the posting.

Knowledge & Abilities

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
