Group/Department Manager - Environmental Services

Job Description

This leadership role will be tasked with continuing to grow our local presence and providing the excellent technical services our clients expect.

Terracon works on a diverse set of projects including environmental site assessments (Phase I/II ESAs); comprehensive site characterization and risk assessments; remediation; environmental planning; regulatory compliance and building environmental sciences/industrial hygiene (IH) projects. General Responsibilities:
In this role, you’ll be responsible for leading a dynamic and highly skilled team working on some of the most complex and cutting-edge projects in the area! Terracon’s Quad Cities office consists of several dedicated environmental professionals with approximately 60 years of environmental experience across various environmental practices. As leader in our organization, you will play a crucial role in the success of our local team and the regional team (Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin). You’ll have the opportunity to exercise your technical skills, grow our business in the local market as well as throughout the surrounding states, and develop top talent in our field. You will supervise a range of ongoing projects with clients in sectors such as financial/investment, power generation and transmission, manufacturing, transportation, municipal and education.

To excel in this position, you will need to be adept in project management and client development and possess technical expertise in environmental consulting. You will be working on a range of environmental projects, but this role is also driving the future direction of the department and the region!

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:Lead safety efforts for team and ensure team follows safety rules and guidelines. Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment; demonstrates safety practices. Promote pre-task planning for all projects.Provide leadership and management of Environmental staff with a goal of growing the business and department.Assume senior project/client management and oversight duties for portfolio of existing workload.Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Monitor quality standards and practices. Engage APRs on projects at their onset.Responsible for the preparation of proposals and cost estimates for a variety of projects.With support from the local office leadership team as well as the Regional Environmental Service Manager and other Environmental Group Managers, perform business and client development activities.With support from the Regional Environmental Service Manager, develop and manage employee staffing plans, recruitment, selection, and onboarding.With support from the Regional Environmental Service Manager prepare and execute annual business plan for the department.Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline practiced by the firm including Engineering, Environmental Science or Geology; Master’s degree or PhD preferred.Minimum of 10 years of practice experience; or in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 12 years of related experience.Experience in Illinois and Iowa is preferred.Experience with conventional environmental services as well as executing and managing projects and proposals.Proven client/business development experience.Previous supervisory experience preferred.Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.Preferred Certification:Project Management Professional (PMP)Registered Environmental Manager (REM)Professional Engineer (PE), Professional Geologist (PG) or similar professional registration/certification relevant to the type of services and projects being managed.
