Group Leader – Structural Sciences
Argonne National Laboratory
The Advanced Photon Source (APS) (https://www.aps.anl.gov/) at Argonne National Laboratory invites applicants for the position of Group Leader for Structural Sciences (SRS) within the X-ray Science Division (XSD). This leadership position will be responsible for the operations and development of five beamlines at the APS that focus on understanding the atomic scale structure of materials using x-ray powder diffraction and pair distribution function methods.
The APS enables world-class research using x-rays by developing cutting edge x-ray instrumentation and techniques, and pursuing research in the physical, chemical, environmental, and materials sciences. The APS is the highest-brightness high-energy x-ray light source in the United States, so is particularly well suited for measurements that probe deep inside a material and/or looking at processes under realistic _in_ - _situ_ / _operado_ conditions.
The SRS group leader will manage, lead, and mentor the members of the SRS group (~15 staff) within the X-ray Science Division (XSD) at the Advanced Photon Source. The position involves the day-to-day management of the operations, budget, as well as R&D activities within the group. The group leader will be responsible for the development of scientific programs based on X-ray powder diffraction and pair distribution function with an emphasis on work with high x-ray energies (>30 keV), and guide other scientists in these activities. The group leader is also expected to develop a personal technical and scientific R&D program recognized for world-wide impact.
Questions about this position should be directed Jonathan Lang (Director-XSD) at lang@anl.gov.
