About the role
In this role, you will provide leadership to your various teams to ensure alignment to company vision, strategy, initiatives, and culture. You will be the advocate of the business both internally within Stantec and externally to clients and professional organisations.
You will ensure your teams are fully utilised on projects and will work with the Project Managers and Business Leaders to ensure projects are adequately resourced to meet project requirements and that the team is trained and appropriately skilled. You will also work collaboratively with the regional leadership team to continually seek work for your teams and grow service lines to meet market demands.
The Group Leader position is a function, in addition to technical/ project contribution role as a Principal / Senior Principal Environmental Scientist, Planner, Engineer and.or Ecologist and can be based in any of our NSW offices in Sydney (St Leonard’s), Wollongong or Newcastle.
Day to day tasks would involve:
· Responsible for the team’s talent management lifecycle including but not limited to; recruitment suggestions, career development, employee engagement, succession planning, coaching and mentoring, diversity and inclusion, and leadership development.
· Support marketing and business development team in positioning for potential projects, writing and reviewing technical and commercial portions of proposals, participating in client interviews, and supporting negotiations for project contracts.
· Support the Business Leader with monitoring and reporting on the performance of the teams and in preparing annual business plans.
· Ensure allocated projects and proposals are planned, programmed, and appropriately managed to meet or exceed client expectations.
· Provide guidance to team members, as an internal technical expert.
· Network with internal and external clients to promote Stantec’s Environmental Services capabilities and develop long term productive partnerships.
To be successful for this role you'll need:
· Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Planning, Engineering and/or Ecology
· A minimum of 10-15 years professional experience in the relevant technical discipline
· Ability to foster and grow a collaborative spirit between staff working within the region, business centre and across the broader Stantec service lines.
· A broad range of skills covering people management, business development and project delivery.
· Highly developed interpersonal skills to develop and maintain positive relationships with the team as well as internal and external clients.
· Highly developed consulting skills to liaise with clients and other stakeholders to achieve mutually successful project outcomes.
· Well-developed problem solving and negotiations skills to resolve queries.
