Job DescriptionWe are hiring a Group Manager in our Strategic Energy Security to provide vision, leadership, technical guidance, and stewardship of people and capabilities for the new Strategic Energy Security Group in NREL’s Energy Security and Resilience Center, within NREL’s Energy Security, Resilience, and Integration Directorate. The research focus of the group includes fundamentals of energy security, supply chains of emerging technologies, risks to – and affordability of - energy systems, adaptation, acceptance, market structures, and economics of energy systems. The research portfolio includes principles, tools, techniques, and methodologies to assess and mitigate disruptions from all sources: cyber and physical attacks, extreme weather and other natural disasters, and geopolitical events. The incumbent will develop the strategic direction of the group in coordination with the ESR Center Director.

Basic QualificationsGroup Manager III:Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Economics, Public Policy and/or another technical discipline related to energy system resilience and 14 years related work experience; Or, Master’s Degree in Engineering, Economics, Public Policy and/or another technical discipline related to energy system resilience and 12 years related work experience; Or, PhD in Engineering, Economics, Public Policy and/or another technical discipline related to energy system resilience and 9 years related work experience.
Group Manager II:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Economics, Public Policy and/or another technical discipline related to energy system resilience and 9 years related work experience; Or, Master’s Degree in Engineering, Economics, Public Policy and/or another technical discipline related to energy system resilience and 7 years related work experience; Or, PhD in Engineering, Economics, Public Policy and/or another technical discipline related to energy system resilience and 4 years related work experience.

Additional Required QualificationsMust be able to obtain and maintain a DOE (L or Q) security clearance and SCI access. SCI access may require a polygraph examination. Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)Job Profile: Group Manager III / Annual Salary Range: $137,600 - $247,700Job Profile: Group Manager II / Annual Salary Range: $114,500 - $206,100NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employee’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
