Group Product Manager, Machine Learning

As the Group Product Manager on Machine Learning, you'll drive the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Discord's Machine Learning Platform and its Applications — particularly in areas such as Personalization, Notifications, Advertising, and Safety.

This role is the most senior product leader for ML at Discord and reports directly to the overall head of product. It is a horizontal role, meaning that it supports many different teams, and therefore requires someone who is comfortable and fluent working with a diverse set of stakeholders with goals that are sometimes in tension.

What You'll Be Doing

Guide the product philosophy, vision, and roadmap for our ML platform, as well as the key use cases such as Advertising, Friending, Notifications, Safety, and Recommendations Collaborate deeply with Applied ML, ML Platform, and Data Science to build our ML Roadmap Stay up to date on the latest ML frameworks and tools to ensure that Discord keeps up with the fast moving world of ML, including LLMs and generative AI Work across all product teams to identify and drive opportunities for how ML should be used

What you should have

The humility to do whatever is necessary to drive impact, to thrive in ambiguous environments, and to get excited about finding solutions to complex problems 10+ years of experience building and shipping great software, including responsibilities driving prioritization, trade-offs, and timelines BA/BS in computer science, mathematics, physics, economics, or related field or equivalent years of experience Experience in applying machine learning to consumer tech, with a strong product sense and pride in understanding the human-centric nature of products that ML touches Familiarity with machine learning basics and trends, from traditional methods to the latest in generative AI. You don't need to be a super-expert, but you should be able to cut through the buzz and help us find practical, efficient solutions that actually work at scale Proven ability to analyze and synthesize data, including writing SQL, Python, and/or R and using BigQuery Demonstrated technical proficiency and effectiveness working closely with engineers A passion for games and the gaming industry

A degree in advanced quantitative subjects (e.g. statistics, engineering, finance, math)

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $263,000 to $289,000 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include equity, or benefits.
