A shared passion project, we’ve banded together to create a fresh take on the traditional Newport hotel experience. Overview Wayfinder Newport seeks an energetic, analytical, personable and highly motivated Group Sales and Catering Manager. This key role is central to driving revenue through proactive sales, building relationships, and consistently delivering exceptional service with a strong focus on creating unique, immersive experiences for guests to foster guest loyalty. The ideal candidate will passionately increase group and catering sales for Wayfinder Newport while achieving ambitious revenue targets. Key Responsibilities Sales Account & Event Coordination Management: Proactively solicit SMERF group business through personal visits, calls, and sales blitzes in targeted markets. Plan, organize, and oversee in-house guest events, rituals, and themed experiences that align with the hotel's brand and appeal to our diverse clientele. Coordinate logistics, setup, and execution for all guest-facing events, ensuring smooth and enjoyable experiences. Develop event schedules, and timelines, and ensure all details are meticulously handled from planning through post-event. Generate bookings for meetings, conferences, and social events within designated markets. Actively up-sell products and services and cross-sell in-house programming to guests for revenue maximization opportunities. Maintain and grow relationships with existing accounts while developing new ones, reworking old accounts as needed. Conduct site inspections and ensure smooth hand-offs to service teams, exceeding all client expectations. Engagement & Relationship Building: Regularly engage with meeting planners and maintain industry and key market visibility. Source, negotiate, and manage relationships with local vendors, entertainers, artists and other event programming suppliers. Ensure vendors align with Wayfinder Newport’s standards and vision for quality and service. Conduct regular performance vendor evaluations, identifying areas for improvement with feedback delivery. Attend trade shows, Chamber of Commerce events, and relevant community events to expand networks and develop leads. Manage all correspondence with clients, ensuring timely follow-up and relationship nurturing. Insight & Operational Coordination: Current with industry trends to identify strategic opportunities to recommend operational and property improvements, menus and package offerings, and sales tactics. Maintain accurate forecasts, recaps, reports and other administrative duties related to sales. Coordinate with the Food and Beverage team for event catering needs, ensuring menu alignment with guest preferences and event themes. Communicate effectively with all departments to ensure seamless coordination and execution of events. Collaborate with all teams to review contracts, manage expectations, and align services to exceed expectations. Essential Functions Develop, implement, and execute strategies and action plans to achieve monthly targets to exceed quarterly revenue goals. Conduct regular sales calls and site tours, ensuring the property’s unique value is highlighted. Partner with all departments to manage booking logistics, services, and on-site details to enhance the guest experience. Review proposals and contracts with Sales Director to protect hotel's best interests. Continuously improving client experiences by providing solutions to challenges and addressing feedback proactively. Marginal Functions This position will require additional supportive functions to be performed as needed, with the time allocation determined by director. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Event Planning, Business, or related field preferred. Experience: 3–5 years Group and Catering Sales within the hospitality industry with experience in event coordination or management. Skills: Strong sales acumen and ability to implement effective strategies. Strong project management and organizational skills, with attention to detail. Excellent communication and negotiation skills for effective vendor and guest interactions. Competency with technology and computer skills with proficiency in event management software, MS Office, and CRM tools. High emotional intelligence to build and manage client relationships, resolve conflicts, and de-escalate situations as needed. Fluent in English with strong verbal and written communication skills Attributes: Enthusiastic, energetic, and self-motivated with a professional demeanor adaptable to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Creative thinker with a passion for crafting unique guest experiences. Strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to service excellence. Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
