THE POSITION Under supervision, the GSA Maintenance Worker performs a variety of routine horticultural and/or facility maintenance tasks on County facilities within GSA Facilities and Materials Department, Grounds Division; operate trucks and other motorized equipment as needed; and performs related work as required. The ideal candidate will have considerable knowledge of landscape and grounds tools, materials, and equipment as well as basic knowledge of turf, plants, trees, and their care. They will also have excellent customer service skills, the ability to maintain effective working relationships. Examples Of Duties Duties may include but are not limited to the following: + Plants, transplants and maintains trees, shrubs, flowers and lawns; + Performs irrigation inspections and repairs, including the repair of mainlines, valves, lateral lines, wiring and troubleshooting; assists in the operation of wireless irrigation control system; + Picks up trash and litter; + Performs some minor repairs and maintenance of landscape equipment; + Drives light trucks, single axle dump trucks, skip loader tractors and other motorized equipment as required; + Under supervision, applies pesticides and fertilizers; + Maintains a clean and save work environment, including participation in periodic cleaning of the shop, equipment and all storage areas; and + Performs other related duties as required. Examinees must earn a score of seventy percent (70%) or higher to qualify for placement on the eligible list. VALIDATING PROCTORED WRITTEN EXAM Offers of employment may be conditional to the candidate until taking and passing an on- site, proctored exam similar to the un-proctored, internet-based exam. Applicants successfully completing the exam process may be placed on an eligible list for a period of one (1) year.
