JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: We are seeking entry level Guidance and Control Engineers to join the Guidance and Control Technologies Division of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. You will research, develop, analyze, implement, and test new capabilities for current and future autonomous undersea systems as part of one or more design teams. ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply. Responsibilities include contributions to the following activities: + Design algorithms for vehicle guidance and control in an undersea environment, including signal processing, detection, classification, tracking, and autonomous decision-making + Analyze multi-sensor data to evaluate system performance + Design, implement, integrate, and test software to demonstrate guidance and control algorithms + Collaborate and communicate with a team of peers + Document work through reports and presentations This job will be filled at the professional or intermediate professional level, depending upon the successful candidate's education and experience. Minimally requires a Bachelor's degree in an engineering or science discipline for the professional level. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher-level jobs. A degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science or Computer Engineering is preferred. Additional responsibilities of the higher-level include: + Investigate and evaluate applicability of theories and practices to the development of guidance and control systems + Lead specific tasks within the project scope Requirements include: + Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills Preferred skills and experience include: + One of more of the following: MATLAB, Python, C++ + Object-oriented software design + Vehicle autonomy + Object tracking and classification + Machine learning + Intelligent control and fuzzy logic ARL at Penn State is an integral part of one of the leading research universities in the nation and serves as a University center of excellence in defense science, systems, and technologies with a focus in naval missions and related areas.
