Job Summary: Performs a variety of duties involved in hair styling hair care and provides basic manicure and pedicure services at a main branch or location haircare facility for authorized military and civilian personnel. Duties and Responsibilities: Provides complete hair care services to clients such as shampooing shaping styling cutting relaxing coloring permanent waving using liquid styling tools scissors razors clippers pin curls rollers hot combs curling irons etc. Checks client s scalp and hair for disorders such as sores abrasions or diseases which may interfere with requested services. Consults with clients on matters pertaining to their haircare needs. - Maintains combs in solution and sanitizes equipment in chemical or physical agents responsible for the upkeep and cleanliness of designated work stations and shop makes necessary preparations for shampoo and towels to be used to minimize delay of client service. - Performs basic manicure and pedicure care and services includes but not limited to cuts shapes and file human nails. - Prepares fingernails and or toe nails for polishing by removing nail polish and or designs currently on nails cuts cuticles and or nails shapes nails and massages hands and or feet. - Polishes nails using a base coat color shield and top coat ensuring that each is dry before applying next layer of polish. - Examines patrons nails and cuticles for disorders including nail disease which may interfere with requested services. Advises patrons of nail care techniques. - Maintains scissors and other tools in cleaning solution ensuring that they are sanitized before and after each use. Makes necessary preparations of cotton swabs nail polish and other working area in a clean and orderly manner. - Maintains an updated record of client services chemical formulas i.e. color relaxers permanents etc. - Operates cash register prepares hair care chits collects and accounts for cash received from clients balances daily sales using Salesperson s Daily Cash Report. Sells hair care products to clients and maintains Daily Appointment Book by name of client time and Stylist Barber assigned. May open and close shop. Assists with monthly inventory. - Carries out policy of courtesy and customer service. Ensures 100 customer satisfaction. - Works under the general supervision of a designated supervisor. Carries out assignments with independence within prescribed policies and procedures exercises tact in dealing with clients. Work is reviewed in terms of quality of services provided and client satisfaction achieved. - Licensing from a state board is required. - Performs other related duties as assigned. May operate cash register prepares hair care chits collects and accounts for cash received from clients balances daily sales using Salesperson s Daily Cash Report. Sells hair care products to clients and maintains Daily Appointment Book by name of client time and Stylist Barber assigned. May assist with monthly inventory. - Carries out policy of courtesy and customer service. Ensures 100 customer satisfaction. - Works under the general supervision of a designated supervisor. Carries out assignments within prescribed policies and procedures exercises tact in dealing with clients. Work is reviewed in terms of quality of services provided and client satisfaction achieved. Incumbent of this position may advance non-competitively to the NA-07 level Hair Stylist after a 180-day period at the NA-05 level provided their performance meets the standards expected at the NA-07 level as determined by the supervisor. - Performs other related duties as assigned. MEDICAL SCREENING REQUIREMENT All barber shop and beauty shop employees including contract personnel must be medically screened and determined to be free of communicable diseases prior to initial assignment. Unless necessary for local reasons there is no requirement for periodic examinations. This screening examination may be performed by non-physician personnel. The employer will direct him or her to a medical clinic on base where they must be screened. Abnormal responses or findings must be further evaluated by a provider. PHYSICAL EFFORT Requires continual use of both arms and hands and involves frequent standing reaching and light lifting. Objects handled such as beauty service apparatus implements appliances etc. seldom weigh in excess of 5 pounds. Dexterity is required in applying manual massaging techniques. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed inside a haircare facility with proper lighting sufficient plumbing and heating adequate aisle space strong water pressure plenty of hot water adequate electric power and outlets for appliances and apparatus. Incumbent is subject to the possibility of cuts burns strains and electric shock and is exposed to hair cuttings skin conditions common colds and communicable diseases. Is required to wear a smock wash hands thoroughly and frequently with soap and water and sanitize implements and apparatus after each use
