Yes Job Summary The Wildland Fire Program, an Extension and Engagement program within the College of Forestry is seeking a Hands on the Land Project Coordinator. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty position. This position is funded for one year and is dependent on continued funding through an obligated five-year federal grant. This position provides essential management, partnership, and outreach functions to a large integrated project focused on workforce equity and climate adaptation in the forested U.S. Northwest. It requires collaboration with diverse teams of researchers, extension faculty, and partners from community-based organizations. The position is responsible for developing and maintaining processes for project management and evaluation; and supporting a culturally respectful project environment for effective communication among diverse collaborators around the Northwest. The position also helps implement Extension education and technical assistance programming. The Hands on the Land project serves forest/wildland fire workers, businesses, community-based organizations, managers, and academic faculty through educational programming, peer learning, and application of interdisciplinary research findings. The project vision is to support a regional coalition of diverse partners who together seek safe, equitable, and sustainable workforce development by sharing knowledge and strategies around systemic and new solutions. Through a combination of research, education, and extension activities, this project will: + Build new interdisciplinary knowledge of drivers of inequity and workforce unsustainability in the forestry and wildfire sector. + Grow regional academic institutions’ capacities to address climate resiliency and equity in forested ecosystems through inclusive pedagogy. + Implement culturally responsive programming that tangibly improves workforce equity and sustains capacity to implement climate adaptation. + Apply knowledge generated from this project to decision making about climate adaptation in forestry at local, regional, and national scales. Key Responsibilities Outreach and engagement (50%): + In collaboration with the OSU Natural Resources Workforce Program Coordinator, plan, develop, coordinate, administer, and execute strategy, curriculum development, and assessment for outreach programming for forest/wildland fire workers and businesses. + Develop and update communication materials such as project website, newsletter, and factsheets; often in coordination with partner organizations’ communications managers. + Create opportunities to enhance access, inclusion, and relevant best practices and include these activities in the annual plan of work, impact statements, and summary of accomplishments/achievements. + Create accessible and inclusive environments that make space for a range of learner needs and provide reasonable accommodations. + Utilize OSU Extension and University branding for products and events. + Follow OSU and division brand guidelines, digital publishing standards, and digital contact management data integrity practices for programmatic communications, marketing, and engagement. + Attend training opportunities to build basic knowledge and consistent skills to use digital communications, marketing, and engagement technologies relevant to position duties. + Develop and maintain a professional development plan designed to build core competencies in all aspects of the position. Professional development can include developing expertise and capacity in wildland fire as it relates to Hands on the Land project activities. Involvement in these activities must follow FNR program standard operating procedures and the terms of any agreements or instruments executed between OSU and the agency/ies. + May supervise student employees. Program management (45%): + Lead implementation of project governance structure including establishing and maintaining shared workspaces, and documentation, and organize and help lead regular meetings and communication among project partners. + Establish, manage, and maintain internal and external relationships among project partners, project advisory committee, and external stakeholders in collaboration with the OSU Extension Fire Program Director and Natural Resources Workforce Program Coordinator. + Lead processes for engaging advisory committee and forest worker task force in providing project input. + In collaboration with OSU Fire Program Director and external evaluator, assist with development and implementation of the project evaluation plan. + In collaboration with OSU Fire Program Director, establish and maintain processes for the project’s data management requirements. + Prepare required reporting to funder(s). + Provide project information and updates to members of the Forestry and Natural Resources Extension Program as requested. + Work with College of Forestry and OSU Financial Strategic Services; Office of Sponsored Programs; and Procurement, Contracting, and Materials Management ( PCMM ) personnel to maintain current awareness of project budget, subawards, grant reporting requirements, and other matters related to project administration. + Communicate actively, clearly, and respectfully with all colleagues, partners, and collaborators. Service (5%): + Establish and maintain professional relationships with appropriate organizations, societies, and public agencies. + Participate fully as a member of the Extension Fire Program and FNR Extension Program by attending meetings, taking on assignments, and otherwise contributing to the functioning of both Programs. + Complete the division’s civil rights training session(s). What You Will Need + Bachelor’s degree in a field such as environmental management, environmental studies, forestry, Hispanic/Chicano studies, public policy, communications, sociology, or other related field. Degree must be completed by application closing deadline. + At least two years of professional experience coordinating or managing outreach programs, projects, and/or communications. + Strong written and oral communications skills. + Demonstrated experience leading groups: including planning, organizing, evaluating, managing, and delegating tasks. + Ability to track activities, information, and issues; and operate shared virtual platforms for communication and data management across multiple organizations. + Ability to manage competing time demands and multiple tasks independently. + A commitment to collaborative and respectful learning and working environments that are safe, inclusive, and welcoming. + Ability to successfully engage with broad and diverse populations in a culturally responsible manner. This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030. What We Would Like You to Have + Ability to communicate (written and spoken) in Spanish without the aid of translation or interpretation. + Master’s degree in a natural resource, social science, education, or other related field. + Project management certification, such as PMP , or other similar certification(s). + Prior experience conducting human subjects research. + Prior experience with curriculum development and teaching in non-formal adult educational settings. + Prior experience working with underrepresented communities in multi-cultural settings. + Prior experience working or volunteering in the field of natural resource management or wildland firefighting. + Familiarity with trends, policies, and prominent issues in natural resource and/or wildland fire management in the US Northwest. Working Conditions / Work Schedule + This position may work a hybrid schedule, as agreed upon by the employee and supervisor. + Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends, possibly with limited overnight travel. + Ability to work outside in inclement weather and in uneven or rough terrain may be required according to program needs. + Travel/driving is required to meet with project team members and partners.
