Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE

We're looking for a hands-on, working in the lab environment hardware engineer who will be responsible for technical evaluation and competitive analysis of internal and external devices. These spans looking at hardware from design, lab testing, field testing and manufacturing. Apply various vectors of comparison like sensors, wireless technologies like BLE, WIFI, Cellular, GNSS, Battery.

They will develop new test strategies, implement and optimize test setup/processes to develop and common baseline for evaluation. Work on evaluating devices specification, design and qualification of test fixtures, and implement equipment testing and diagnosis. The candidate should be a strong and effective communicator that is independent and highly motivated. You will join a world-class team of experts exploring new concepts through rapid prototyping leading to shipping products.

MAJOR / KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Translate device offerings into meaningful comparative vectors. Define specs for comparison.

• Deep understanding of SI and PI fundamentals.

• Own all aspects of HW evaluation from design to validation to manufacturing.

• Excellent debugging skills during validation and production ramp and sustaining phases.

• Drive and participate in technical reviews and support processes.

MEASURES

• Product prototypes which can be tested, resulting in a minimally viable product to enable BXBD to gather the data needed to derive the IOT data resulting in intelligence that can be monetized.

AUTHORITY / DECISION MAKING

• Working autonomously or having limited access to immediate manager

• Working in a matrix environment

KEY CONTACTS

Internal:  Engineering team, project management team.  

External:  External vendors, specific to choosing the technology or products that will be used in the engineering of the device.  

QUALIFICATIONS

• 7+ years of hardware development experience

• Extensive experience in computer architecture and embedded compute and wireless systems

• Extensive electrical PCB schematic capture, layout, and rapid prototyping experience.

• Extensive experience with mechanical CAD and simulations tools for designing robust enclosures, thermal solutions, and mechatronics.

• Experience with writing low-level firmware for bring-up test and validation.

• Extensive experience troubleshooting/debugging with hardware

• Master's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field

Desirable:

• Experience with lab instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, logic/protocol analyzers for debugging embedded systems at HW level

• Experience delivering consumer electronics

• Demonstrated expertise in one or several of the following areas - communication protocols (TCP/IP, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi), computer vision, sensors.

• Experience with signal integrity and power integrity analysis.

• Experience with large production manufacturing and rollout of hardware devices.

• Experience with system bring-up, manufacturing end-of-line testing.

• Experience in Python for analysing sensor data

EXPERIENCE

• 5+ years of related experience in hardware systems.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

• Analyse, design, develop, and debug hardware for a wide variety of tracking devices, including EE, GPS, Cellular, Wi-Fi/ BLE

• Be a go-to person to escalate the most complex performance and evaluation issues that require in-depth knowledge of product-focused firmware development

• Support all phases of hardware development – including early architecture requirements definition, EVT, DVT, PVT.

• Proven track record in managing engineering teams and external contractors

• Knowledge of communication protocols: I2C, SPI, USART, I2S, PCM.

• Experience with sensors, accelerometers, gyro, GPS, humidity, temperature

• Experience with Wi-Fi, BLE, and Cellular IoT solutions is a plus.
