This unit is responsible for testing, evaluating, and certifying materials to meet the highest standards of safety and performance, supporting North Carolina’s transportation goals. This 10-week internship (May 27-August 1, 2025) offers an immersive experience in a hands-on laboratory environment where interns will engage directly with the team to perform meaningful work that impacts infrastructure development. Interns will have the opportunity to contribute to projects such as updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), creating and editing spreadsheets, and assisting with laboratory tasks, all while gaining practical insights into engineering and material testing processes. Roles and Responsibilities:Interns will: + Update and refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure clarity and accuracy. + Create, edit, and maintain spreadsheets for data organization and analysis. + Conduct hands-on laboratory work, assisting in material testing and analysis. + Collaborate with team members to learn and apply best practices in materials testing. + Develop technical skills using tools such as Visual Basic and Python to support automation and data processing needs. Preferred Skills: + Basic proficiency in programming languages such as Visual Basic or Python. + Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. + Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting. + Strong written and verbal communication abilities. Candidate Preferences: + Open to students or recent graduates from any major with an interest in laboratory work, engineering, or materials science. + No prior laboratory or engineering experience is required, as interns will receive training and support to succeed in their role.
