Position:Rail Unit Intern Position Overview: The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Rail Programs Unit is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented intern to support strategic planning activities and contribute to critical rail and intermodal transportation initiatives. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in transportation planning, intercity passenger rail development, and intermodal transportation connections. Responsibilities: + Collect information and review/edit planning documents related to strategic rail programs, including the Corridor ID program to expand intercity passenger rail. + Support the Rail Services Team by gathering information and strategizing on connections between NC By Train services and local transit/intercity bus programs. + Participate in project meetings and assist in the preparation of materials for outreach events. + Utilize GIS tools and spreadsheets for data analysis and project support, if applicable to your skills and experience. + Contribute to team-wide efforts, including occasional in-person outreach or event assistance. Skills and Qualifications: + Required: Strong word processing and spreadsheet skills. + Preferred: Experience with GIS and database management. + Ideal academic backgrounds include transportation planning, engineering, public policy, or related fields. + Strong written and interpersonal communication skills, as well as attention to detail.
