Responsibilities include performing on-site inspections, conducting material sampling and testing, and coordinating with contractors to maintain schedules and resolve project issues. Job Summary:The Smithfield Resident Engineer’s Office is seeking a motivated intern to assist with road and bridge construction projects in Johnston and Wayne counties. This position offers hands-on experience in project inspection, material sampling and testing, and contract administration. Interns will work 40 hours per week in a dynamic, outdoor environment, contributing to critical infrastructure projects. Key Responsibilities: + Assist Assistant Resident Engineers and Project Inspectors with on-site inspections of road and bridge construction projects. + Perform material sampling and testing to ensure compliance with project specifications. + Support contract administration tasks, including documentation, reporting, and record-keeping. + Collaborate with Office Administrative personnel to track project progress and manage paperwork. + Monitor construction activities to ensure adherence to safety protocols, schedules, and standards. Qualifications: + Education:Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. + Skills: + Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures. + Excellent organizational and communication skills. + Comfortable working in outdoor environments and exposure to varying weather conditions. + Basic knowledge of construction practices and materials is preferred but not required. Work Environment:This is an outdoor-focused position requiring time on active construction sites. The role involves exposure to the elements, including heat, cold, and varying terrain.
