For Water Street Mission to fulfill its mission and purpose, it is critical for all staff to participate in the development and maintenance of a healthy Christian Community. Even as some positions have minimal direct contact with guests, each staff member has an essential role in forming and maintaining Christian community. Job Summary: Supervises the food preparation process for the mission. Trains and supervises all staff, guests and volunteers.
FLSA: Full-time, non-exempt

Essential Functions:
Culture and Values
• Share the Good News of Jesus Christ in words and actions with people we serve, communicating hope and dignity.
• Walk alongside fellow WSM staff in Christian community as we journey toward maturity.
• Encourage restoration in the lives of coworkers and guests, recognizing we are each restored by God to become restorers.
• Work in full coordination with other WSM staff at all times to identify, report and respond appropriately to any potential threats to the safety and wellbeing of guests.
Role Specific Responsibilities
• Provides guidance and direction of kitchen staff, volunteers, and guests
• Assists Food Services Manager and Human Resources with hiring of new team members
• Maintains good order and alignment in regard to teamwork in the kitchen
• Covers duties for Sou Chefs when absent
• Ensures that the kitchen maintains an exceptional standard of cleanliness by leading cleaning efforts and inspecting of kitchen, facilities and equipment to ensure compliance with sanitary standards and passing annual inspections
• Collaborates with the Sous Chefs in creating menus
• Creates checklists, schedules, prep lists, and cleaning schedules for the team
• Enhances food quality by creating exceptional standards for the food service team
• Ensures the organization of the cooler and freezer in collaboration with the Food Services Manager
• Oversees the food service department's in-house catering program
• Oversees the equipment maintenance in the kitchen and food dock areas
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervision (if appropriate)
• Supervises and trains sous chefs & prep cooks in kitchen procedures and policies
Education and Experience: Professionally trained chef with at least 10 years of food services experience in a restaurant or institutional setting preferred. At least 5 years of supervisory experience mandatory. Evidence of past spiritual leadership preferred. High school diploma or GED mandatory. Servsafe certification preferred. This position will work some weekends and holidays.
