Job Title Head Coach, Men and Women’s Cross Country & Track & Field Agency Texas A&M University - Texarkana Department University Athletics Proposed Minimum Salary Commensurate Job Location Texarkana, Texas Job Type Staff Job Description The head coach will direct all facets of a competitive men’s and women’s NAIA Cross Country & Track & Field program with a special emphasis on recruitment of student athletes whose educational, athletic, and personal aims are imminently congruent with the University mission. The head coach is responsible but not limited to practice and meet preparation; budgeting; academic support; supervision of assistant and graduate assistant coaches; and ensuring the general welfare and development of the student-athlete. The head coach is responsible for all areas of team administration and management, including practice sessions, conditioning workouts, monitoring student-athletes academic progress, and evaluation and recruiting of prospective student-athletes. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: + Coordinate the implementation of the TAMUT Cross Country & Track & Field program based on integrity and compliance with all NAIA regulations + Recruit and retain student-athletes who can compete successfully at a level consistent with program expectations and who can be successful academically + Prepares documents, reports and proposals as required by the Athletic Director + Stay current, understand, and adhere to all NAIA guidelines and maintain up-to-date rosters and other information required by athletic department. Will report any violations of these established rules, which may arise, to the proper officials. + Implements and administers team rules and discipline policies not less restrictive than the general rules and policies of the TAMUT Athletic Program + Supports Registrar and Faculty Athletic Representative in adhering to and maintaining academic eligibility requirements + Supports the Athletic Trainer in managing athletes’ injuries and in administering the institutions athletic drug testing policy + Reinforce the TAMUT culture by demonstrating sportsmanship, integrity, a competitive spirit, and the importance of academic excellence + Coordinate all game day events – set up/take down of equipment at venue + Be a professional representative of the University and a role model for student-athletes, the Department, and the community + Operate within the rules, regulations, and policies of the University and the Athletics Department + Contribute to the total development of the student athletes in the program in a manner consistent with the educational values of the University. In addition to their athletic development, provide support and assistance to service units and student-athletes regarding academic progress and graduation. + Cultivate and maintain effective relations with associations, conferences, alumni, media, civic groups, students, faculty, parents, and friends of the University as directed by Athletics Director + Assist in implementing and maintaining a comprehensive public relations program. + Assist in managing the operations of sport camps and/or clinics. + Assist in managing all department fund-raising and booster events in accordance with NAIA, Red River Athletic Conference, and institutional rules, policies, and procedures + Establishes and ensures communication and enforcement of rules and regulations concerning student-athlete conduct, appearance, road games, punctuality, and other areas + Assist in transportation of athletes to/from athletic events, which may include driving a full-size passenger van or other large capacity vehicle. + This document represents the major duties, responsibilities, and authorities of this job, and is not intended to be a complete list of all tasks and functions. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Minimum Qualifications + Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience + Cross country/track & field coaching experience at the high school, collegiate or professional level + General knowledge of NAIA and NCAA rules + Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs + Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others + Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills + Ability to travel and work beyond normal office hours + Ability to maintain confidentiality + Must have a State of Texas or Arkansas class "C" vehicle operator's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment. + Acceptable driving record and periodic completion of van safety course + Physical Requirements + Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. + Working in all weather conditions, exposure to high noise levels, standing throughout the day, the ability to use a loud voice at practices and events and physical involvement in all practices and workouts with players. + The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Preferred Qualifications + Master’s degree in a related field + Proven cross country and/or track and field coaching success, preferably at the junior college, NAIA, or NCAA level + Proven ability to work effectively with a broad-based student population, student athletes, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders SUPERVISION OF PERSONNEL: This position generally supervises employees.
