This position plans and administers all aspects of the men’s basketball program including coaching, recruiting, compliance, fiscal management, and public relations as well as being directly involved with fundraising and university development initiatives. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree.
Five years of basketball coaching experience.
Knowledge of, and commitment to, following NCAA rules.
Proven integrity, leadership skills, and ability to motivate student-athletes to be successful academically and athletically.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree.
Collegiate coaching experience. Duties & Responsibilities Performs all duties and services of a men’s basketball head coach as prescribed by the University’s Director of Athletics in accordance with the policies, practices and regulations of the University and the Athletics Department. This includes performing as a full-time employee during the hours and days of the week as determined by the Director.
The duties of the Head Basketball Coach shall include, but are not be limited to, the following:
Coaches the University’s men’s basketball team, operating within University, Mid-American Conference (MAC), and NCAA rules, guidelines, and policies, and within the parameters of the allocated budget.
Supervises and manages the men’s basketball program budget, which includes decisions on travel and equipment procurement.
Establishes and maintains an active men’s basketball recruitment program to provide players capable of maintaining University’s level of play at the NCAA Division I level. This includes recruiting and retaining student-athletes who achieve acceptable academic performance, as defined by the NCAA, through its Annual Progress Report (APR) and Graduation Success Rate (GSR).
Establishes and maintains a men’s basketball program that produces spectator interest as measured by attendance and revenue generated at home contests.
Generates revenues from external sources that support and enhance the operating budget of men’s basketball and the overall athletic program by, among other methods, being directly involved in fundraising activities.
Works with the director to schedule the men’s basketball season for competition at the NCAA Division I level.
Oversees scheduling of non-conference opponents, done so in such a manner as to generate game guarantees, and give consideration to CMU’s alumni base that will enhance revenues generated by the men’s basketball program.
Represents the University’s Department of Intercollegiate Athletics to various community groups with respect to the men’s basketball program and makes speaking appearances at special events sponsored by CMU Athletics as determined by the director.
