Collegiate Sports Kean University is seeking an experienced Head Men’s Wrestling Coach to lead and launch our new program. Reporting to the Director of Athletics and Recreation, the Head Coach will coordinate the operations, coaching and cultivation of Kean’s team. The Head Coach will be responsible for the establishment and growth of this new program, and for building a vision for the program which aligns with Kean’s tradition of success. This includes, but is not limited to: recruitment and retention of student-athletes; scheduling; fundraising; travel arrangements; budget; and related work as required. This individual will support the mission of the University as well as bring knowledge and passion for the sport of Wrestling.

This is a part-time position which requires travel and a flexible schedule including evening/weekend hours. Interested candidates should submit resumes to: Jay Sgaramella, Associate Athletic Director - sgaramej@kean.edu Responsibilities include: In conjunction with the Director of Athletics and Recreation, organize all aspects of the Men’s Wrestling program, including facility, game, practice, administrative and operations management. Support and promote this new wrestling program. Instruct students on sport fundamentals, set clear team goals and expectations, and provide feedback to students. Demonstrate teaching and coaching competencies with regards to skill instruction and tactical strategies. Arrange the game schedule, practice schedules, team travel arrangements and equipment. Identify and evaluate potential student-athletes and organize their recruitment. Oversee the recruiting process of student athletes; including telephone and email communication, as well as on-campus school and off-campus visits. Ensure and maintain knowledge and a strict adherence to all NCAA and Kean rules and regulations. Follow all federal, state and Kean University rules and regulations. Oversee the management of team operating and fundraising budgets. Participate in department-wide and sport-specific fundraising efforts. Report any known NCAA violations or concerns to the Director of Athletics. Supervise and train assistant coaches, graduate assistants and team managers. Project and promote the highest standards for each student-athlete, in order to best prepare them as upstanding citizens and alumni. Develop and maintain alumni outreach programs Establish and maintain communication and cooperative working relationships with University administrators, faculty, staff and students. Manage and maintain sensitive and confidential information, ensuring it is handled securely and in compliance with the Kean’s policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned

Education

Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.

 

Experience

Two years of intercollegiate coaching experience and/or professional experience in the sport of wrestling, as well as demonstrated skills in developing and motivating student-athletes for athletic, academic and personal success    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Understanding and commitment to the mission of Kean University. Knowledgeable of  the sport of wrestling Strong organizational and coordination skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coaches, administrators, media and the public. Computer skills including word processing, email and statistical programs. Willingness to work evenings and Saturdays. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to build and develop relationships with a variety of contacts (i.e.: coaches, public, families/parents, constituents and external media). Ability to communicate professionally both orally and in writing.

 

SPECIAL NOTE: This position also requires the ability to perform essential functions including, but not limited to: the ability to physically lift, position, move and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds; walking long distances/standing for long durations of time outdoors/indoors in varied temperatures; and exposure to high noise levels
