We are seeking a skilled and experienced Head Gardener to oversee and manage our extensive gardens at Rosewood Kauri Cliffs. As the Head Gardener, you will be responsible for maintaining the lodge and clubhouse property while maximising and showcasing the breath-taking views we have available.
The position allows great freedom and variety in plant choices to allow your personal touch and to be a big part of the success of the gardens. The successful candidate will have the benefit of accessing the master plans and advice from the landscape designer.
Responsibilities
Designing and implementing garden plans and landscaping schemesSupervising and providing guidance to a small team of gardenersMaintaining and watering plants, trees, and shrubsPruning and trimming trees and hedges to ensure proper growth and shapeMonitoring and managing pest and disease controlFertilizing and mulching garden beds to promote healthy growthManaging the irrigation system and ensuring proper water distributionUpgrade gardens/landscaping areas where necessaryConducting regular inspections to identify and resolve any garden issuesMaintaining garden equipment and tools, ensuring they are clean and in good working conditionImplementing sustainable and environmentally friendly practices in the gardenKeep plantings from over hanging walk pathsCarry out work to avoid guest disturbanceRequirements
Proven experience as a Head Gardener or similar role (minimum 5 years’ experience in amenity gardens/horticulture work)Hold a current drivers licenseTrade Horticultural Certificate, or equivalent (preferred but not essential) Advanced Growsafe Pesticide License (preferred but not essential)Knowledge of the characteristics and cultural requirements of native and ornamental plants, shrubs and trees adapted to the region and proper use of fertilizers, soil conditioners and pesticidesIn-depth knowledge of various plants, trees, and shrubsStrong understanding of garden maintenance techniques and landscaping principlesExcellent supervisory and leadership skillsAbility to work in various weather conditions and physically demanding environmentsStrong time management and organizational skillsKnowledge of irrigation systems and their maintenanceAbility to identify and resolve pest and disease issuesExcellent communication skills, both verbal and writtenAbility to contribute towards budget creation and project work budgeting and prioritising.
