Head Groundskeeper

ASM GLOBAL, the leader in privately managed public facilities has an excellent and immediate opening for a Head Groundskeeper at ASM GLOBAL Oakland Arena and Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. This position reports directly to the Sr. Director, Maintenance. 

JOB SUMMARY

ASM Oakland is looking for an experienced and motivated Head Groundskeeper to oversee all aspects of field and facility operations for the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum including but not limited to sports, concerts and private events. This key leadership role will ensure the smooth and efficient running of the playing field, guaranteeing that it meets the highest standards for player safety and performance within the specification of league standards.

Annual Salary Range: $95,000.00 - $105,000.00

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee all field maintenance and operational activities, ensuring the playing field is prepared and maintained to professional standards.Develop and implement comprehensive field maintenance programs, including turf care, irrigation, and pest management.Manage and supervise the grounds crew providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high performance and adherence to safety protocols. Manage the budget for field operations, including purchasing supplies, equipment, and services as needed.Conduct regular inspections of the field, facilities, and equipment, identifying and addressing any maintenance or safety issues promptly.Plan, execute and oversee field renovations, improvements, and special projects in collaboration with the General Manager and other stakeholders.Oversee the setup and breakdown of field equipment for games and events, ensuring timely and efficient operations.Develop and maintain relationships with vendors, suppliers, and contractors to ensure high-quality service and materials.Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to field and facility operations.Prepare and maintain detailed records and reports on field conditions, maintenance activities, and operational expenses.Respond to emergencies and weather-related incidents, implementing appropriate measures to protect the field and facilities.


Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in turf management, sports management, facility management, or a related field preferred.Minimum of 10 years of experience in sports field maintenance and operations, with at least 3 years in a management or supervisory role.In-depth knowledge of sports turf management practices, irrigation systems, and field maintenance equipment.Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to effectively supervise and motivate a team.Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with staff, vendors, and stakeholders.Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.Physical ability to perform manual labor and work in various weather conditions.Proficiency in using maintenance management software and other relevant computer applications.

Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds up to 10 minutes at a time.

Perform work through repetitive eye/hand coordination.

Able to balance and have good manual dexterity.

Work inside and outside of buildings.

Experience exposure to adverse conditions such as weather and loud noises.

May occasionally have to enter areas where fumes, airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals are present which will require ability to use respirator and/or other PPE.
