Job Description

The successful candidate will lead the Old Mutual Limited (OML) Corporate Social Investment function (CSI), translating the Group's Integrated Financial Services strategy into the OML Communication strategy - to be underpinned by a target driven delivery horizon of 1 - 3 years.

This role is responsible for developing, executing, maintaining, and managing the Corporate Social Investment (CSI) strategy to ensure client and brand connection, which will support the overall positioning and good governance citizenship of Old Mutual Limited.

Reporting to the Social Investment Executive, this role forms part of the Public Affairs Leadership team. Success will be achieved by Old Mutual being recognized as a responsible corporate citizen, contributing to social development in the communities in which it operates and positioning the organisation to be our customers’ first choice.

Key Result Areas

Strategy Development and Implementation

Formulates OML CSI strategy and business plan, ensuring it is aligned to the long term business ambition incorporating Financial Education, Humanitarian and disaster support initiatives.

Builds cross-cutting relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including, business units and Old Mutual's other socio- economic transformation initiatives.

Coordinates and supports networks of operating company representatives to ensure consistent approaches on the key elements of the CSI programme that support best practice sharing.

Develops and implements the Old Mutual CSI publicity strategy.

Responsible for the strategic storytelling of the CSI narrative for the OML Group and manage the delivery of this narrative across the Group - what OML wants to be known 

Provides strategic support on CSI initiatives to segments & business units and ensures alignment between OML and the rest of the group wide initiatives.

Responsible for opportunity identification from an internal and external perspective.


Functional Management

Collaborate cross functionally to manage and enhance OML’s CSI and humanitarian efforts, 

Partner with Group Communications to manage external perceptions and communication to protect the brand during challenging times and integrated into the broader strategic planning of the organization - aligning initiatives with business goals. 

Identify the capabilities needed to meet the current and emerging business needs and evaluate current capabilities, identify gaps, and prioritize development activities.

Builds cross-cutting relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including, business units and Old Mutual's other socio- economic transformation initiatives.

Influences and provides input at various spheres of Government (National, Provincial and Local).

Leads the communication of Old Mutual's CSI initiatives internally and externally, ensuring Old Mutual becomes known as a leader in socio-economic transformation.

Attracts meaningful partnerships (public/private) and forms alliances with like-minded organizations.

Stakeholder Management

Develop a “Trusted Advisor” relationship with key leaders at multiple levels within the company with high levels of professional credibility and ensuring that internal stakeholders have access to high-quality advice and guidance to support in delivering business strategy and plans.

Identify and manage stakeholders up to Senior levels, determining their needs/issues/concerns and responding to these by leading and coordinating the development of engagement plans to support the communication of business information and decisions.

Manage relationships with external stakeholders and act as a lead spokesperson in key consultations and negotiations.

Define and drive clear accountability and engagement models and processes within the team and with touchpoints across the Group.

Builds, enhances and leverages the Old Mutual brand among key stakeholders locally and in the continent, government, business, trade unions and civil society.

Manage performance of direct reports, ensuring agreement of annual goals, measuring performance against agreed goals, and addressing non-performance issues.

Manage the working environment and ensure that it contributes to improving team morale and increasing productivity.

Manage budget plans for the CSI function.

Risk Management and ensuring risks are well articulated, understood and managed.

Applies knowledge of business and the marketplace to advance the organisation's goals. For example, ensures that the team understands and discusses relevant industry changes. 

Requirements: Skills, Qualifications and Experience required

An MBA or master’s degree in business or management advantageous 

Minimum bachelor’s degree, honours preferred

More than 5+ years' experience in financial services and / or related industry.

More than 5+ years’ experience in a CSI, non-profit or Public Benefit (PBO) or related organization. 

More than 5+ years' experience in a senior leadership role.

Experience in dealing and interacting with Boards of Directors, Trustees, and other senior stakeholders and managing the related governance prescripts. 

Highly proficient at project planning, budgeting, and oversight.

Adaptive thinking and a strong, critical mindset.

Ability to manage complexity under pressure.

Strong business acumen and presentation skills.

Forward-thinking and adaptable to dynamic situations.

A solid understanding of innovation and how it should be applied in business.

Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills (both written and verbal).

Technical Competencies

Entrepreneurial mindset, ability to identify, discover and launch new propositions, products or services.

Experience in scaling initiatives.

Experience in building / running similar capabilities within a corporate.

Depth and breadth of network relationships in the ecosystems and industries alike.
