Posting Number: 20254289S Position Title: Head of Emerging Law Practice Technology / Instructor Position Type: Staff Location: Villanova, PA Recruitment Type: Internal/External Applicants Work Schedule: full-time/12-months Avg Hours Week Department: 243-Law School Library Position Summary: The Head of Emerging Law Practice Technology and Instructor is responsible for supporting the students and faculty of the Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law through the provision of services designed to advance legal research, scholarship, instruction and learning.

Duties and Responsibilities: ADMINISTRATION Proactively research and monitor current trends in emerging law practice technologies, Evaluate existing and emerging law practice technologies for their capabilities and potential impacts, including but not limited to assessing the opportunities and challenges presented by artificial intelligence, Engage in thoughtful, strategic adoption and implementation of existing and emerging law practice technologies in the educational environment, including curriculum-wide deployment, while prioritizing the educational mission of the Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law, Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in the use of existing and emerging law practice technologies by creating educational materials and conducting competency training for faculty and students, Prepare law students to meet their ethical obligations to be technologically competent, Foster collaboration with departmental, university, and community partners to leverage resources and create new models of engagement with law practice technologies, Coordinate Villanova Law School’s participation in and contribution to technology-focused events, including but not limited to hackathons, career fairs, etc., Work closely with library and law school administration to craft an intentional strategic vision for technology’s role in the future of legal education at the Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law, Manage projects as assigned.


LIBRARY SERVICE Serve as a liaison to various law school departments, Provide research and technology consultations and resource training to students, faculty, staff, and visitors via in-person meetings, email, and phone as needed, Create and update instructional videos to support the law school curriculum as needed, Actively participate in developing and maintaining the content of the Law Library’s collection through regular review of electronic and print resources, Collaborate with Falvey Library to enhance Law Library services and collections, Serve actively in Law Library and Law School committees as well as professional organizations at national, regional, section, and local levels in order to contribute to the profession, grow professionally, and stay abreast of current trends.
INSTRUCTION Design, prepare, and teach courses on law practice technology in the law school curriculum; conduct student assessment, Guest lecture in law school courses, Support faculty instruction through creation of targeted research guides, CALI tutorials, course material suggestions, and sharing of assessment tools and resources customized to the faculty member’s course content and structure.
MOOT COURT Serve in an advisory role throughout the academic year to the students who organize the annual Moot Court competition, Apply knowledge of appellate practice and procedure to draft a balanced, two-issue, appellate Moot Court problem, together with accompanying record and bench brief, for use in the annual Moot Court competition.
Minimum Qualifications: Formal Eduation J.D. from an ABA accredited institution and an M.L.I.S. from an ALA accredited institution or ten years’ experience in a legal setting (court, law firm, law library, or legal services organization). Will also consider post-secondary education, such as certificates, in technology, informatics, computer science, or library science, in lieu of an M.L.I.S.

Minimum Work Experience Experience in, or knowledge of, the practice of law. Knowledge of and proficiency in the use of existing and emerging legal practice technologies and trends. Knowledge of legal research resources, processes and strategies, and their role in the practice of law. Knowledge of hardware and software related to legal practice, law libraries, and legal research. At least three years’ experience in a legal setting (court, law firm, law library, or legal services organization). Ability to navigate change management. Strong customer service orientation. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interact and work productively with a variety of people. Ability to work as a responsible and contributing team member. Strong diagnostic skills, problem solving skills, and project management skills. Ability to think independently, consult appropriately, and solve problems creativity and adaptability in the face of multiple simultaneous demands. A commitment to diversity and inclusion. Intellectual curiosity and initiative. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of legal education and pedagogy, including teaching experience. Experience participating in, or coaching, a Moot Court team.
