The role
Join our Rail Systems Management Team as the Head of Engineering and lead a multi-disciplined engineering function to successfully deliver all projects. You will develop and provide engineering solutions, ensuring compliance with industry and company standards. Your role will be pivotal in providing the necessary engineering resources to meet company and client expectations. You will monitor and audit engineering performance to ensure adherence to specifications, procedures, and standards, continuously improving our engineering solutions to maintain a competitive edge and deliver exceptional results for our customers. You will also support Babcock in the pursuit of Engineering Excellence and manage compliance with Translink Standards, ensuring the competency of our staff.
Day to day you’ll lead, manage, and direct the engineering and testing functions across Rail Systems operations, including design and delivery, and collaborate with the Programme Planning Manager UK to support future business strategy through data analysis and resource forecasting.

You will also: 

Support the Rail Systems bidding programme by providing engineering plans, strategies for future work, and customer engagement. Develop and implement resource strategies, including supply-chain management, to optimize engineering and testing resource plans. Drive continuous improvement in the Engineering function concerning sustainability and social value. Propose and implement new ways of working within our systems and processes to benefit the business and customers. Ensure engineering compliance with legal requirements. Liaise with designers and construction teams to optimize specifications and programmes, regularly reviewing performance against established norms. Create development plans for individuals in the engineering function to advance relevant knowledge, skills, and behaviors. Support Project Managers in maintaining effective client relationships and respond urgently to client concerns regarding design and engineering quality.

 

This role is full time 35 hours per week and requires regular travel to Hamilton OR Belfast on a weekly basis alongside home working arrangements.

 

Essential experience of the Head of Engineering

Strong background in railway operations Successful record in project and engineering management. Fully conversant with railway structure and associated safety matters. In-depth knowledge of utilities, construction, and contracting.

 

Qualifications for the Head of Engineering

Educated to Degree Level. Professionally qualified in an appropriate discipline. Chartered Engineer or on a demonstrable path to achieving this status.
