We are seeking a talented individual to join our External Affairs and Media Relations team at Marsh McLennnan. This role will be based in London. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.
Head of External Affairs and Media Relations, UK , 1 year FTC
An opportunity to make a real impact by raising public awareness of Marsh McLennan, one of the largest companies in the UK and ensure favourable brand association. This role is a 1 year fixed term contract to cover maternity leave.
We will count on you to:
Develop and execute Marsh McLennan’s business-specific, regional external affairs and media relations strategy, aligned with the regional marketing strategy.Work closely with senior management, including regional, business and marketing leadership, to promote business objectives through proactive media and external affairs strategies, ensuring business alignment.Work with the global external affairs and media relations team, ensuring the implementation of global standards and processes in order to drive best practice and a consistent messaging for external communications globally.Build strong internal networks, increasing collaboration on key issues across the firm, including building an effective internal funnel for communications content.Provide crisis and issues management advice to senior colleagues regionally and globally.Oversee increase in positive/proactive media coverage, including building relationships with tier 1 target media and trade publications in key industries.Develop and manage aspects of relationships with relevant trade bodies and other external stakeholders, in conjunction with Marsh McLennan’s Legal, Compliance and Public Affairs function, where appropriate.Develop relationships with key Tier 1, broadcast, trade and general business media journalists in the region, demonstrating effectiveness of media/public relations campaigns by producing measurable growth in coverage among key outlets.Develop productive relationships with a broad spectrum of colleagues at all levels of the organization.Ensure alignment of media relations activities with key regional sales and marketing campaigns.Manage relationships with regional PR agencies driving results and value for the enterprise.Vet external speaking engagement opportunities, in line with the firm’s media relations policy. Build, manage and develop an effective team that can work in a matrix environment in one of Marsh McLennan’s key regions.What you need to have:
Significant, senior level PR/Media relations experience, ideally within the professional or financial services industry.Experience of people management and leading a team is essential.An existing network of contacts within the Tier 1 broadcast, trade and general business media journalists.Educated at least to bachelors’ degree level (or equivalent)Strong capability to write commercial media-ready work product that is both highly accurate and professionally presented. Highly effective at framing and positioning a particular message to a given audience in a compelling, appropriate format.Skilled in taking complex ideas and communicating them in a way that is relevant and easily digestible.Ability to create deep working relationships across business, functional, and line of business boundaries.What makes you stand out?
