The Role
You will be responsible for leading the Legal advice to Condé Nast’s Technology function as well as providing specialist Data Privacy and Technology law support to our Consumer, Commercial, AdOps, Revenue, Data and Procurement teams globally.
You will ensure our business has a globally integrated approach to technology law, data privacy compliance and AI regulation, at all times ensuring that colleagues have the tools and information they need to sustainably operate in a data secure and aware environment.
You will identify challenges to Condé Nast’s business arising from changes in digital and data regulation and support strategic discussions on privacy, providing advanced subject matter expertise to enable the business to take informed decisions on matters relating to data and technology.
You will also partner with senior leadership in Condé Nast’s Technology Team to enable their access to legal advice from all towers of Condé Nast Legal and Policy, working as their legal primary contact for all subject matter areas and connecting them with colleagues in Condé Nast’s Legal and Policy team as appropriate.
What will you be doing?
Partnering with Chief Product & Technology Officer and senior members of Condé Nast’s Technology and Data teams to facilitate the delivery of legal services on all technology law matters
Supervising and providing direction on data privacy operational and legal advice given by the data privacy team and across all towers of Condé Nast Legal & Policy and across all markets, including relating to data protection terms in agreements, marketing and ePrivacy issues, policy matters, rights requests, product development, accountability matters, litigation and investigations, data transfers, regulatory approvals, compliance projects and market launches
Participating in and supporting the operation of the Data Forum, Condé Nast’s pathway for cross functional decision making on data related issues
Partnering with VP, Enterprise Data & Analytics on the delivery of data & AI governance structures
Leading a team of in house Technology and Data Privacy, and Data Privacy Operations lawyers based in key locations around the world
Managing an external network of DPOs and global privacy resources and ensuring consistency of approach on privacy and technology matters globally
Providing strategic advice and policy support on digital products and strategy
Advising change leads within Technology on potential strategic plans
Keeping up to date with with the latest developments in legal, commercial and industry trends
Promoting Condé Nast’s data governance strategies and activities in-market
Playing a key role in the Legal Leadership Team and supporting the General Counsel and other members of that team with the development and management of legal department strategy globally
Who you are:
Legally qualified in the UK or an EEA jurisdiction with significant relevant experience
Strong experience in privacy law gained either in private practice or in an in-house role in a similar sector to Condé Nast, including a thorough knowledge of applicable industry codes and best practice
Prior experience of managing and leading legal teams and establishing in house technology and data governance structures and programmes is desirable
Deep knowledge of UK and European data protection law, GDPR and e-Privacy essential. Knowledge and awareness of international data protection laws, especially US and China data privacy laws, a plus
Expertise in digital technologies, in particular adtech
Excellent written and spoken English, and an ability to speak other languages would be an advantage
Ability to present legal advice in a pragmatic, problem solving and commercial fashion
Positive “can do” attitude and willingness to work flexibly and as part of a new and evolving team that is itself operating in a business and sector going through change
