Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location.  The anticipated wage for this position is

$205,500 - $301,400

The Diabetes, Obesity and Complications Therapeutic Area (DOCTA) of Eli Lilly and Company, is dedicated to the discovery of biologic, small molecule and genetic therapeutics for the treatment of cardiometabolic disease. We are seeking a metabolic physiologist who can help advance a highly collaborative obesity drug discovery and development team. The successful candidate will use their deep understanding of metabolism and energy balance to play a critical role in supporting early discovery efforts. This role will involve evaluating and experimentally validating novel targets and supporting projects in development for the regulation of body weight and energy expenditure. Your ability to drive novel science and make data-driven decisions will allow you to make a significant impact.

Key duties and responsibilities

Provide scientific insight and expertise into metabolic target evaluations and workflows; help set strategic goals and identify critical go/no go decision points for various portfolio and early target opportunities.Define and execute on key opportunities to expand capabilities and expertise in evaluating metabolic therapeutic approaches including, but not limited to, in vivo assays assessing energy balance, substrate utilization, nutrient partitioning and protein turnover.Lead and manage a highly functioning in vivo technical team performing hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic and stable isotope clamps to screen and evaluate various therapeutic agents. Prioritize needs of various group leaders, set schedules and deliverables for the team. Frequent communication with key stakeholders to ensure seamless delivery of high-quality data in a timely basis.Support key external collaborations and activities in areas of opportunity for Lilly and DOCTA, establish required workflows and collaborations as needed.

Additional objectives

Work with external partners and search and evaluation teams to provide scientific guidance on therapeutic potential of specific assets, platforms or technology.Champion and lead novel target discovery efforts, partner with functional leads and key scientists to enable progress and rapid decision making.Contribute to later stage programs through key mechanism of action studies, design and implement key studies and present results at external meetings and through publications.

Minimum qualifications:

PhD in physiology, molecular biology, pharmacology, or a closely related fieldDemonstrated research experience and track record in cardiometabolic research areaMinimum 10+ years of academic research and/or industry research experience
