The role
As Head of Security, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary - leading the protection of critical defence infrastructure, ensuring compliance with evolving legislation, and enabling the safe and secure delivery of operations vital to national security.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll lead the modernization of Babcock Devonport’s aging infrastructure, overseeing long-term security upgrades such as fencing, surveillance systems, and physical safeguards to ensure compliance with evolving legislation and global security standards. You’ll work closely with internal teams, customers like the Ministry of Defence and the Naval Base Commander, and suppliers such as Rolls Royce to align security objectives with operational goals. 

 

Additionally, you’ll collaborate with senior stakeholders within Babcock, including the Managing Director and Site Director, to ensure alignment with corporate priorities. Leveraging your commercial and financial expertise, you’ll manage budgets effectively, ensuring the efficient use of resources to achieve security outcomes while meeting profitability targets. As a corporate leader, you’ll implement robust risk management strategies, guiding diverse teams toward achieving shared goals in a highly regulated environment. You'll also:

 

Lead the consolidated Security team to maintain and improve the management of security delivery during normal operations, incidents and emergencies, supporting operational delivery of defence outputs Develop and undertake procedures for inspection, maintenance and testing of the security system in order to provide confidence that security system delivery is being effectively managed 

 

This is a full-time role (35 hours per week) with hybrid working arrangements. While onsite work is required due to the role’s nature, there will be opportunities for remote work based on business needs.

 

Essential experience of the Head of Security 

Experience as a security manager or in a similar role, with a strong background in security risk analysis and management. Proven leadership experience, successfully managing large teams and delivering complex operational services and projects within a highly regulated environment. Strong understanding of financial management, including managing budgets and overseeing profit and loss. Excellent senior stakeholder management skills, particularly at director level and with senior customers.

 

Qualifications for the Head of Security

Ideally, you will be a member of a professional body such as the Register of Chartered Security Professionals, the Security Institute, or the Institute of Leadership & Management. Desirable: Certified Nuclear Security Professional with WINS certification.

 

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a UK Sole National and able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
