Head of Tax

The Head of Tax is a crucial role leading Lyft's tax department in a fast-paced, public company environment. Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, this position will work with stakeholders across the organization to ensure compliance, optimize tax positions, and drive strategic tax planning. This role will sit at Lyft's San Francisco HQ. 

Responsibilities: Develop and implement tax strategies to optimize the company's global tax position while ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations Oversee and manage all global tax compliance and reporting requirements Lead tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities, providing necessary documentation and representation Monitor changes in tax legislation, assess their impact, and advise management on necessary actions Collaborate with internal departments and external advisors on comprehensive tax planning and compliance Analyze financial impacts of tax laws and regulations, assessing risks associated with potential strategies Communicate and collaborate with senior management to align tax strategies with overall business objectives Lead and mentor the tax team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development Provide strategic tax advice for business initiatives, mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate activities Prepare and present tax-related reports to senior management Review annual and quarterly tax provisions and related disclosures in SEC filings Manage the tax department's budget Work closely with Treasury on cash management and repatriation strategies Identify and implement tax technology solutions to improve efficiency and accuracy Experience: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent certification required Minimum of (15) years of experience in tax, with at least (5-7) years in a leadership role In-depth knowledge of U.S. and international tax laws and regulations Strong experience in international tax planning and compliance, particularly for expanding companies Expertise in transfer pricing principles and strategy development Experience in tax due diligence and structuring for mergers and acquisitions Proficiency in tax software and data analytics tools Proven track record in process improvement and tax function automation Experience building relationships with tax authorities across multiple jurisdictions Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex tax regulations Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills Experience in a multinational corporation or public accounting firm, preferably with "Big 4" firms Preference for experience in the technology or transportation sectors Ideal Candidate Characteristics: Resourceful and forward-thinking, with a hands-on approach to solving complex problems Experienced in leading cross-functional teams and managing small teams effectively Skilled in influencing and partnering with diverse stakeholders Passionate about educating and mentoring on technical accounting impacts Exceptionally detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment Benefits: Great medical, dental, and vision insurance options Mental health benefits Family building benefits In addition to 12 observed holidays, salaried team members have unlimited paid time off, hourly team members have 15 days paid time off 401(k) plan to help save for your future 18 weeks of paid parental leave. This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule — Team Members will be expected to work in the San Francisco office 3 days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Additionally, hybrid roles have the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year. #Hybrid

The expected base pay range for this position in the San Francisco area is $212,000 - $265,000. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits.
