About the role
The Energy Management UK Business Platform (EM UK) is an entity of GEMS, which operates in the UK. EM UK provides decarbonisation, optimisation and risk management services for internal and external clients in the UK.
PAS is a multidisciplinary team providing:
Portfolio Management Services to Group Entities (Pumped Hydro Storage, BESS and Renewables) Market Analysis to support trading and origination activity Valuations to support Group investment decisions in the UK Quantitative Research and Modelling to support trading and origination activity Algo development to support trading and operations activity Structuring products to manage client energy risk Proactive strategic guidance based on market intelligence
The EM UK team is based in our London office, close to Liverpool Street. We offer hybrid and flexible working arrangements to all team members and encourage regular on-site attendance to foster and maintain professional connections.
You will lead a highly motivated, collaborative and capable multidisciplinary team working on key commercial aspects of the Energy Transition. You will set the team's strategy and direction, supporting both their delivery and personal growth.
As the Head of V&A, you will play a key role in leading our Energy Transition efforts and help us leverage our diversified portfolio. Your leadership will facilitate high-quality decision-making at all levels, from intraday half-hourly pricing to long-term strategic investments. By maintaining a focus on excellence and collaboration, you will drive performance and innovation across the board.
As part of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) for EM UK, you will contribute to setting the strategic roadmap for EM UK and ENGIE in the UK, aiming to be a leading energy transition utility by 2030 and beyond. The EM UK SLT focuses on client-centric approaches, digital advancement, and fostering collaboration within the team and across Engie.
Main Activities
Lead the team enabling them to deliver:
Portfolio Management Asset Representation using GEMS ETRM system, OT, to enable the Asset Owner to understand forecast expected revenues and running regimes Provide analysis and guidance to Asset Owner on appropriate Risk Management strategies, executing agreed hedges Minimise impact of planned outages through engagement and collaboration with Asset Operations teams Provide targeted performance and valuation reporting to the Asset Owner to enable them to understand their asset in the market context Conduct valuation and sensitivity studies to support major (and minor) asset investments Shareholder engagement where asset is held in a JV Collaborate with the UK Regulatory team to support market design and advocacy work, through provision of analysis, expertise and worked up consultation responses Market Analysis Drive UK assumptions that feed into Group Scenario modelling Develop and maintain local and integrated fundamental market models that enable deeper understanding of Group Scenarios Provision of market scenarios to support asset investment and M&A activity in the UK Active support of Due Diligence activity in M&A transactions Develop and maintain local unit commitment models, scrutinising results Horizon Scanning. Proactive identification and assessment of new business opportunities for GEMS and GBUs in the UK Feeding Energy Scan (Engie’s external market data platform) with UK specific content Ensure access to the right data from the right providers stored in the right location Quantitative Research and Modelling Support traders, originators and structurers through delivery of innovative quantitative analysis Design and build robust quantitative tools that assist front Officers in pricing standard products Deliver ad hoc tactical solutions to Front Officers as well as developing new pricers in official pricing library. Deliver major strategic projects that incorporate techniques such as Machine Learning, for example development of trading Algos Ensure best coding practices are embedded within the team Structuration Drive the strategy for implementation of structured products in the UK
Interaction scope:
EM UK Team. As one of about 20 Business Platforms of GEMS globally, EM UK comprises around 60 GEMSers of which about 10 are in the PAS team. As Head of PAS you will interact across all the teams from Front Office to Finance, IT to Risk Management.
GEMS Expertise Centres. GEMS operates global Expertise Centres which brings together communities of like-minded GEMSers that focus on similar problems in different Business Platforms around the world. The PAS team has representatives belonging to several Expertise Centres: Markets, Assets and Sales (MAS), Quantitative Research and Methods (QRM), Global Market Analysis (GMA) and Clients. As Head of PAS you will interact with each of these Expertise Centres.
Internal Clients. The PAS team works on a strategic and operational basis with Global Business Units (GBU) in the UK. FlexGen, Renewables and Networks are all represented here.
External Clients. The PAS team engages with external clients in different ways, from operational onboarding to analytical updates.
External bodies. The PAS team has regular engagement with the NESO and represents Engie at various industry forums in conjunction with the UK Regulatory Affairs (RAPA) team.

Experience of power & gas markets in UK Understanding of Data Science methodologies Advanced understanding of risk management systems Product pricing techniques, for example, stochastic processes, Montecarlo pricing, optimal decision making, options pricing, quantitative modelling Familiarity with modern coding languages such as Python, R or Juila Understanding of the physical power system, generation assets, power plant representation and appropriate hedging strategies University degree in a quantitative area (eg IT, engineering, mathematics, economics) Experience of Risk Management and/or Decarbonisation services
