Head Women's Basketball Coach

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Department of Athletics is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Head Women's Basketball Coach. The Alaska Nanooks athletic program competes in multiple NCAA divisions, with Women's Basketball as a member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The program features 10 teams competing at both the Division I and Division II levels.

As the Head Women's Basketball Coach, you will report to the Director of Athletics and oversee the administration of an NCAA Division II Women's Basketball program. Your responsibilities include ensuring the health, well-being, and academic success of student-athletes while fostering a competitive team environment. Additionally, you will manage the program's budget, plan and coordinate practices and competitions, and ensure compliance with NCAA, conference, and university regulations. Other duties include establishing and enforcing team rules, recruiting student-athletes committed to academic success, monitoring academic progress and eligibility, supporting the department's philosophy and policies, and promoting intercollegiate athletics as an integral part of the university.

To excel in this role, you must have a proven track record of coaching success at the Division I or II level (or equivalent experience), strong communication skills for engaging with the media, and a demonstrated ability to recruit and retain high-caliber student-athletes. A deep understanding of NCAA rules and compliance requirements is essential, along with a coaching philosophy that aligns with the mission, vision, and values of UAF and the Athletic Department. Additionally, you must be capable of fostering professional, collaborative relationships with student-athletes, administrators, faculty, staff, and the community. Experience in fundraising to support the basketball program, as well as supervising and mentoring both staff and student-athletes, is also required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and four years relevant coaching experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Position Details:

This is a full-time, term-funded, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 81, based on education and experience.

A valid driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria is required.
