PCC Mason is currently seeking a senior level Header Operator for our Advanced Manufacturing plant. 

The Header Operator will be responsible for setup, running, monitoring & troubleshooting of progressive warm heading machine for manufacturing of tight tolerance aerospace fasteners within a highly automated manufacturing line. Other processes that the applicant may also be assigned to operate include fillet rolling, thread rolling, point, drill & broaching & vision inspection systems.

Applicants should be very hands on with good mechanical aptitude & attention to detail.  Prior manufacturing experience as header operator in fastener industry is required. High level of familiarity & expertise with cold heading or warm heading processes such as 2 die-4 blow or progressive heading of fasteners. Applicants should demonstrate strong initiative and basic math skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Set up and operate header & other fastener manufacturing equipment such as fillet rolling, thread rolling & sorting machines.Load wire coils, setup wire straighteners, induction heat treatment coils, quill/knife, punch, die & knock out pins & transfer arm/finger tooling on the headerMake adjustments to the machine & tooling to ensure parts are as per specifications.Performs first piece and in-process inspections with visual & other inspection equipment such as micrometers, calipers, etc. to ensure adherence to quality.Detect machine malfunctions and troubleshoot issues to keep machine uptime.Read blueprints to determine specified tolerances and sequences of operations for machine setup.Perform developmental set-ups and prototyping on new parts.Repair, maintain, and/or replace tooling when worn, broken or out of tolerance.Remove tooling from machines when production runs are finished.Use forklift and hand truck to bring and remove supplies as needed.Work safely by adhering to relevant Safety & Environmental procedures & proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Required Skills

High level of familiarity with cold heading or warm heading processes such as 2 die-4 blow or progressive heading of fasteners.Ability to setup & maintain high precision heading & forming machines with very high degree of repeatability by following standard work instructions.Adjust machine setups, offsets & change tooling as required to ensure compliance to product & quality requirements.Ability to set up in-process inspection equipment such as Force monitors (Marposs), touch probes, etc., interpret results and determine response actions.Ability to multitask & keep multiple machines running concurrently to specifications.Familiarity with shop floor ERP systems to correctly interpret work orders.Able to work overtime as needed.Work in a team environment, i.e. follow instructions and assist others as needed.Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Experience & Education                                      

High School Diploma or GED with experience or vocational/technical certification required. Associates degree preferred.Minimum 3-5 years of experience with one or more cold/warm heading & forming machinery, such as National, Formax, Carlo-Salvi, SACMA, Ingramatic, Waterbury, Formax, Reed, Hartford etc. in a fast-paced environment.Prior experience in warm farming of tight tolerance aerospace titanium fasteners highly desirable.Prior experience of operating FANUC robots will be a plus.

Physical Requirements

Standing for prolonged periods of time – up to 8 hours or more per day.Frequent lifting of objects up to 45 pounds.Noise level is usually moderate.Fast-paced environment, subject to numerous schedule and priority changes and short notice activity.Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle and/or adjust equipment.Moderate reaching, pushing, pulling, gripping, and grasping.Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel toed work boots or shoes.
