Pay Rate:

$81,700-108,900 (PL 11)

Multiple factors, including Individual experience, skills and abilities will determine where an employee is ultimately placed in the pay range.

The Job You Will Perform:

Position Responsibilities:

The Health and Safety Engineer will work closely with a variety of different areas throughout the mill including operations, maintenance, technical, and management.

Provide visible and active leadership in delivering excellent safety results Train salaried and hourly employees to develop safety leadership skills in the department and/or mill Work within a group to develop safety coordinators throughout the mill Maintain strong relationships with other EHS team members as well as operating and maintenance department leaders Influence Business Unit operations teams to incorporate health and safety systems and processes Support operations through field day/annual outage support when needed Identify and implement health and safety best practices from across the mill, business, and company Implement systems to improve/sustain results Fulfill weekend duty team leadership role for EHS department Assist with the management of the mill safety program by coordinating activities of the employee-based safety team, conducting behavior and condition observations, evaluating and improving the effectiveness of site programs, coordinating incident investigations, leading hazard assessments and applying the hierarchy of controls to reduce risk exposure Develop and conduct health and safety training for the mill employees and management. Assist with scheduling, reviewing, preparing, documenting and tracking employee health and safety training sessions Assist with the implementation and management of company health and safety standards and program elements (e.g., hazard communication, powered industrial trucks, confined spaces, personal protective equipment section, and moving equipment) Assist with local efforts around company initiatives such as internal self-audits, EHS compliance audits, contractor compliance, etc. Identify and lead implementation of constructive change within work area Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices and develop hazard control practices and programs. i.e. safety observation program, etc. Provide safety consultation and information to support all company safety efforts Administer all safety programs through audit and follow up procedures. This includes updating existing and developing new programs as needed due to regulatory changes, changes in company policies/rules and other needs as necessary Performs other duties and special projects as assigned

Effectively facilitate problem solving

 

Required Experience: 

Bachelor’s degree in Safety/ Industrial Hygiene or equivalent practical experience with a minimum of two to three years of health and safety experience in a heavy manufacturing/industrial environment.  Experience in a pulp and paper mill is preferred.  Process Safety Management (PSM) experience is a plus.  Must have flexibility to be on call or work off hours as needed.

Position level will vary based on experience.
