The position requires the ability to take initiative, work independently, as a team, and think creatively. Strong communication skills-written and verbal, ability to multitask and prioritize, and attention to detail required. The individual will be expected to work with community and corporate partners in a professional, sensitive, and confidential manner. This position requires the ability to work with teens, parents, and other adults while discussing potentially sensitive subjects such as healthy decision making, sexual health, teen pregnancy, and STD prevention. The individual in this position will be supervised by the Health Education Program Manager-SES. A valid driver’s license is required for this position. This is a grant funded position, if funding is discontinued, this position may be eliminated. The Health Educator will be responsible for the following Sexual Risk Avoidance Education Programming: The Health Educator will deliver the grant approved, evidence based, curriculum to middle and high school students within the Marion County Public School System along with private schools. The Health Educator will deliver presentations to adults/parents in church groups, correctional facilities and other community based organizations related to Sexual Risk Avoidance education. This position will be required to work with parents and concerned adults and will seek out opportunities to educate adults on information related to Sexual Risk Avoidance education and other current issues related to positive youth development to their children and county youth. With guidance from the Health Education Consultant and program supervisor, this educator will plan, coordinate, and implement special events that promote Sexual Risk Avoidance education to county youth. These events will be coordinated with community and corporate partners. This Health Educator may be asked to promote youth health an address related youth risk factors by participating in community coalitions/councils/meetings/events, disseminating information to health education staff/program coordinators, supervisor and Marion County public. The individual will assist in program monitoring and evaluation activities. Other duties as assigned: participation in special departmental events Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: + Experience educating youth or adults + Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication- both written and verbal. + Ability to discuss sensitive subjects such as sexual health, teen pregnancy, STD prevention, and healthy decision making in an appropriate and positive manner. + Knowledge of the principles and practices of health education. + Ability to develop and deliver health education services to others. + Using logic and analysis to identify the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches. + Ability and skills to prioritize and manage your time effectively to meet deadlines. + Ability to collect and analyze data. + Ability to maintain electronic and hard copy records. + Ability to pay attention to detail. + Ability to work independently and as a team. + Ability to problem solve and think quickly under pressure. + Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing 30lbs or more unassisted. + Ability to operate a personal computer, utilizing computer systems and operating audiovisual equipment. + Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook.
