SUMMARY: 

Health Educators will be based in one or more Rowan Medicine outpatient offices and will be responsible for implementing the SBIRT model and delivering non-clinical services to patients as indicated. Health educators will be the main point of contact for patients seeking additional information on substance use risk.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Implements the SBIRT model and delivers non-clinical services to patients including: Pre-Screening using AUDIT-C, NIDA and other tools Providing full screening to patients using the USAUDIT and DAST-10 Score all screening instruments Provide score based interventions to patients including brief advice, brief intervention, and referral to treatment, as appropriate per screening scores Serves as the point person for Rowan Medicine patients at assigned clinic who are seeking more information on substance use risk. Performs appropriate follow up with patients with positive scores at designated intervals. Documents and tracks appropriately. Maintains knowledge of external sources of treatment facility referrals and monitors the coordination of services across the substance abuse and primary health care systems. Collects and enters data in project database and electronic health records. Develops and maintains cooperative working relationships with community service providers. Participates in orientation, basic and advanced training, motivational interviewing trainings, and other skill-building and recommended trainings. Exhibits knowledge of cultural differences including socioeconomic factors, cultural traditions, and spiritual beliefs. Provides training for SBIRT, naloxone rescue, additional topics as identified to medical students, residents, faculty & staff. Performs day-to-day administrative tasks as appropriate.

Understands and adheres to Rowan Medicine's compliance standards as they appear in Rowan Medicine's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.

Keeps abreast of all federal, state and Rowan Medicine regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's Degree in Public Health or Psychology, or a related field. One (1) year of health education experience preferred.  Applicants lacking the required degree may substitute appropriate related experience on a year for year basis.

This is a Full-Time Temporary Grant Funded position.
