Health Information Management Technician - hybrid schedule available

Purpose
The Health Information Management Technician (HIM Technician) will sort, prepare, and scan medical records to be electronically filed into a patient’s health record. In addition, they will abstract and enter specified data and manually update patient charts. Individuals will be responsible for handling and processing the flow of all health records received in the HIM department either on paper or in an electronic format. Furthermore, HIM Technician will release and request health information from outside organization for continuity of care. HIM technician will be cross trained in all in all areas of the department.

In this position you will:

Sort all incoming documents (through faxes or interoffice mail) received in the HIM department by specific document types. Scan all records On Base > Epic for indexing and committing in patient chart and/or routing to physician In Basket if necessary. Update and close and close out referral orders once the consult, diagnostic image and/procedures are received and indexed Use patient identifying information to navigate and locate the correct patient chart in the electronic health record (EHR). Index (file) all scanned documents On Base under the correct patient, date of service, and document type. Perform a quality check on all documents indexed before committing into patient chart to ensure accuracy. Adhere to document filing standard categories and document types. Assist with release of information tasks. Answer phone calls and attends to patient questions, take massages and /or transfer to the appropriate department. Required qualifications:
• High School or Vocational School diploma.
• 2-years of medical records experience

Preferred qualifications:
• 3-years of medical records experience
• RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) certification from accredited organization

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
• Experience with Electronic Health Information System. Knowledge of or experience in use of personal computers and digital scanners. Knowledge of and ability to identify health record documents. Knowledge of standard medical terminology.
• Ability to be detail oriented and perform repetitious work accurately. Ability to demonstrate excellent verbal/written communication skills and customer service. Ability to remain calm and professional when faced with difficult situations.
• Ability to interact well with ethnically diverse populations. Ability to work as part of a team and independently to complete assigned duties and tasks.
• Ability to interact appropriately with co-workers, patients, outside organizations and vendors. Able to understand processes and flow charts to follow policies and procedures. Ability to meet and comply with HIPAA/Confidentiality policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and guidelines to ensure patient confidentiality. Ability to work with Providers and other Clinicians to ensure records are in EPIC in a timely manner. Ability to demonstrate competency with data entry, EPIC, MS Office, faxing, mailing, and phone calls.

Compensation 

The wage range for this position is minimum $19.97 up to $ 22.45 maximum.  

Compensation will be determined based on years of relevant experience.
