We have an immediate need for a Health & Safety Specialist to join our Environmental Health & Safety department. In this role, you will play a key part in Reporting to the Senior Supervisor, Environmental Health & Safety the successful candidate will act to maximize productivity and reduce health related costs. This position will mainly hold responsibilities in Health & Safety, WSIB claims management and fostering our safety culture amongst other responsibilities. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with skilled professionals, and contribute to the success of Raytheon ELCAN.

 Primary Responsibilities:

Assist in monitoring and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies.Conduct routine inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.Conduct regular safety inspections of facilities and equipment to ensure compliance with safety standards.Identify and report unsafe conditions, practices, and behaviors, and follow up on corrective actions.Assist in the development and delivery of EHS training programs for employees.Support the investigation of accidents, incidents, and near misses to identify root causes and recommend preventive measuresAssist in preparing and submitting required health and safety reports to regulatory agencies.Keep up to date with changes in EHS regulations and standards to ensure ongoing compliance.Manage the WSIB claims process, including filing claims, coordinating return to work programs, and maintaining compliance with all regulatory requirements.Be involved in the Return-to-Work coordination along with Accommodation Plans for all work-related claimsDevelop and lead the contractor safety program.Lead and continuously develop health and safety programs, including but not limited to: contractor safety, working at heights, crane use, slip/trip/fall prevention, electrical safety, etc.Complete monthly reports relating to injury frequency, severity, tracking, costs and trend analysisSupport the Joint Health and Safety Committee with completing inspections, closing findings, and running meetings

Technical Requirements & Education:

A degree or diploma in Health and Safety (or equivalent experience). CRSP designation is an asset.2-5 years' work experience in an Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) related position within a manufacturing environment is preferred.Solid foundational understanding of working with Ontario health and safety regulations.Proven experience managing WSIB claims process.Demonstrated ability to manage employee wellness programs, health promotion activities, awareness campaigns, etc.Strong understanding of operational learning methodologies, including learning from both incidents and normal operations.Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, from senior leadership to frontline workers.Formidable leadership, communication, and organizational skills.Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, along with various other software functions.Ability to manage conflicting priorities and deadlines, as well as managing a large amount of information at one time.Ability to establish and foster continued employee trust enhancing the safety culture.Highly motivated with a demonstrated positive attitudeWillingness to learn and acquire knowledge/understanding through study, instruction or experience
