Health & Safety Specialist (Field Based)

ERM is hiring a Health & Safety Specialist in Milledgeville, GA. In this critical role, you will be responsible for establishing, implementing, managing and continuously improving the environment, health and safety programs for the facility. The H&S Specialist will have broad knowledge of H&S compliance programs and, where required, H&S specialty. The role includes strategic H&S planning as well as a tactical role for site-wide H&S systems, H&S regulations, and best practices. This is a full-time (40+ hours/week) limited-term role for 12 months, extendable.

RESPONBILITIES:

Review and track investigations of injuries, illnesses, environmental releases, non-injury accidents and near-misses to ensure that they are effective, and that they identify and resolve root causes. Lead investigations into serious adverse events. Monitor and analyze H&S performance and initiate action to support or correct trends.Provide timely, high quality H&S technical support/training. Design, conduct and oversee H&S training.Carry out regular workplace inspections to monitor compliance with site rules, procedures, etc. Develop and manage an internal audit program to assess compliance with legal and company requirements and identify opportunities for improvement.Coordinate the completion of job safety analyses and risk assessments. Conduct environmental impact assessments to identify the site’s key environmental priorities.Support site H&S policies, objectives, key performance indicators and targets that reflect local needs and alignment with the Client’s long term H&S strategy.Assist with implementation of local H&S SOPs that effectively promote the site’s H&S management system.Champion a strong safety culture across the site and maximize personnel involvement in H&S -related activities.Perform gap assessments of the local programs, policies, and procedures to Corporate standards and applicable regulatory requirements.

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in safety, occupational health, science, engineering, or related degree preferred.5+ years relevant experience in working on regulatory compliance and sustainable H&S compliance programs.Experience in ash pond environments (excavation, trenching, land disturbance etc.) is required.Demonstrated ability to provide detailed regulatory interpretation of federal and state OSHA regulations.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
