Health Technician (Autopsy)
Summary About the Position: This position is located in the Defense Health Agency (DHA) under the policy guidance and direction of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (ASD (HA)). This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. A relocation incentive may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal Service. Salary and leave accrual negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal Service. Responsibilities Ensure the morgue has all necessary supplies and equipment. Maintain electronic ledgers, receipts, vouchers and records for quarterly review. Collect, label, and maintain proper chain of custody of specimens. Demonstrate forensic photography principles for the pathologist. Oversee the work performed by members assigned to morgue operations. Assist in preparation of tissues for microscopic slide preparation. Provide direct autopsy support and evisceration for a minimum of 20% of cases assigned to the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes preparing morgue designated areas in accordance with standard operating procedures; preparing the appropriate instruments, devices, containers, or solutions for autopsy; and aiding in the removal of organs, spinal cord, tongue, or eyes in accordance with recognized standards and safety control policies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-[insert 05 or above]). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
