Health Technician (Nutrition Communication Center Coordinator)
Summary This position serves as the Nutrition Communication Center Coordinator (NCCC) in the Nutrition and Food Service (N&FS) located in the Orlando VA Medical Center. The NCCC works with N&FS information systems and is responsible for maintaining the systems and resolving issues related to the N&FS systems as they arise throughout the medical center. Responsibilities Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Resolves information technology issues related to integration of VISTA, Get Well Network/Touch Tone Dining and N&FS Systems. Develops and updates nutrient databases on nutrition analysis of menu items served. Makes menu/recipe changes and all necessary updates in food service system (any commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) program) Troubleshoots and resolves all electronic or paper menu issues. Consults with clinical nutrition staff to resolve tray ticket issues with complex diets. Provides training and orientation for all N&FS employees. Serves as NCC liaison between Veterans, multidisciplinary healthcare staff and N&FS staff. Participates in performance improvement activities by assisting in the development of indicators and monitors, data collection and analysis, corrective actions, and preparation of reports. Handles patient problems and complaints related to N&FS as appropriate. Ensures compliance with all regulatory agency standards, including state, federal and Joint Commission. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/31/2024. Health Aid and Technician Series 0640 Individual Occupational Requirements: This occupational series has an Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) which is a minimum qualification requirement. To be considered for the position, you must ensure that the experience is reflected in your resume and/or if applicable, transcripts must be uploaded to support education requirement or substitution. Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. You must have an appropriate combination of specialized experience and education. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education by 9. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. Preferred Experience: At least one year experience utilizing customer service skills as it relates to food service, food safety, and training service staff. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Communication Computer Skills Education and Training Food Service Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Routine work requires repetitive motion activities of the hands and fingers for extensive phone, keyboard, and computer mouse use, standing and sitting for extended periods of time, intermittent/non-strenuous ambulation around all areas of the medical center, and carrying light items such as papers, books, portable scales, and food trays.
