Medicine (14C) is a 31 bed acute care unit that provides services to adult patient populations that include: cystic fibrosis, chronic cardiac conditions including heart failure, endocarditis, NSTEMI, and atrial rhythm disturbances; liver and renal injury and/or failure; cellulitis; EtOH withdrawal; and delirium management.
Patients require acute medical and nursing intervention such as intravenous fluids, nutritional support, and pain management; respiratory care including tracheostomy and stable ventilator management; and education to optimize self-care.
14C admits behavioral/psychiatric patients with medical issues that may have suicidal ideation or other behavioral risks that necessitate a court hold. Creating a therapeutic environment for this population includes establishing a therapeutic nurse-patient relationship that facilitates gathering critical patient data and implementing the interdisciplinary plan of care.
The Health Unit Coordinator is part of the health care team and utilizes her/his knowledge and expertise to support and enhance nursing area/unit operations in areas throughout OHSU.
The Health Unit Coordinator acts as receptionist and provides secretarial and clerical skills, computer entry services, and organizational and problem solving expertise. Health Unit Coordinators are assigned to work with all patient populations and age groups.
Required QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent
One year of clerical experience in a health care environment or equivalent combination of experience and training that would provide knowledge and skills listed below
Basic knowledge of medical terminology, abbreviations, and symbols
Ability to read, write and speak fluent English
Basic math skills
Demonstrated computer skills
Demonstrated customer service skills
Ability to prioritize and multi-task
Frequent need to sit and answer phones and keyboard for extended periods of time
Frequent twisting from the waist to reach supplies and/or patient charts
Frequent need to walk around nursing units and facility to obtain supplies and/or locate staff
Occasional need to lift under 50 lbs
Ability to perform the job duties with or without accommodation.
