Job Description

1. Job Summary:
The Health & Wellness Coach is responsible for coaching virtually or in-person with individuals or groups seeking to enhance whole-person health and wellbeing. The incumbent will elicit and guide an active, collaborative change process while advancing access to whole-person health and wellbeing services and programs in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
2. Essential Functions:
· Conduct initial consultations with clients to assess current status of health and wellbeing
· Partner with participants in one-on-one or group coaching sessions to explore, discover, develop, implement, and promote lifestyle changes/behaviors that improve health and wellbeing or prevent disease
· Establish collaborative, empowering relationships; throughout the coaching process, regularly provide guidance, encouragement, support, and accountability to clients
· Create a safe space (physically and emotionally) for participants to explore and design goals, as well as related action plans
· Document client session notes in practice management system
· Measure, monitor, and report on efficacy of the health and wellbeing coaching results
· Help develop and distribute highly engaging health and wellbeing educational content for both virtual and in-person delivery
· May develop and conduct health and wellbeing classes and seminars (as needed)
· May represent the YMCA in the community, participating via in-person and virtual public relations and promotional activities (as needed)
· Respond to and communicate client concerns and pertinent feedback in a timely manner to supervisor
· Assist welcoming, scheduling/processing payment, and checking in clients
· Actively practices referral to other integrative health and wellbeing disciplines within the wellbeing team (with client permission)
· Explore and engage in opportunities to grow client base through interactions within community
· Advise on health and wellbeing coaching and philosophy of whole-person wellbeing when the organization is establishing new culture, products, programs, and services
3. Relationships:
This position reports to the Director of Health and Wellbeing Coaching who reports to the Vice President of Whole-Person Wellbeing. The incumbent interacts regularly with members and clients, responding to their needs and provides feedback in a professional manner. The incumbent also interacts with other members of the Health and Wellbeing Coaching and Wellbeing teams.
4. Qualifications:
Required
· Current National Board of Heath & Wellness Coaches (NBHWC) certification through National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME); credential must be maintained during employment
· One year of experience in one-on-one coaching
· Understanding the application of stages of behavioral change, as well as coaching psychology (e.g., positive psychology, motivational interviewing, appreciative inquiry)
· Experience in developing, monitoring, measuring, communicating, and reporting on health and wellbeing initiatives
· Knowledge of HIPAA compliance and regulations
· Demonstrated competence in multi-tasking
· Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
· Proficient in using technology platforms (e.g., Microsoft suite, Zoom)
· Ability to provide clients with guidance and information about the benefits of coaching as an integral part of their overall whole-person health and wellbeing
· Demonstrated ability to motivate others to achieve their health and wellbeing goals
· Excellent customer service, active listening and verbal communication skills
· Ability to build strong relationships with individuals
· Demonstrated ability working with a diverse population and ability levels
· Values philosophy of whole-person wellbeing (i.e., mind, body, spirit, community and environment)
· Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations
· Flexibility to travel and deliver services at multiple locations
· Available evenings and weekends
Preferred
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in health education, health promotion, exercise science, nutrition, psychology or other health-related subject
· Group coaching experience
Preferred Specialization
· Master’s degree from an accredited institution in clinical psychology, counseling, clinical social work, or other related area
· Minimum of 1 year of work experience in counseling other mental-health therapeutic setting
· Understanding of trauma-informed care
5. Work Conditions:
· Ability to lead assigned classes, workshops and sessions, demonstrating movement techniques as required
· Stretch, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs and move heavy equipment on a daily basis
· Ability to recognize and react calmly and effectively in the event of an emergency
· Flexibility to travel and deliver services at multiple locations
6. Additional Notes:
This job description represents the major functions of the position, but it is not intended to be all-inclusive.
