**Heart and Lung Transplant Surgical Fellowship (1 year)**
The world class cardiothoracic surgery program at Cleveland Clinic's Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute is seeking Heart and Lung Transplant Fellows to join the number #1 cardiac surgery program in the country. The Cleveland Clinic offers excellent compensation, comprehensive benefits package, and a collegial work environment.
Cleveland Clinic Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute performs over 5000 cardiac operations annually, while both our heart and lung transplant services are among the busiest in the nation with more than 200 total heart and lung transplants yearly. In addition to transplantation, Cleveland Clinic performs 80-100 Durable LVADs, 100 temporary assist devices for both left and right sided support and over 100 ECMO insertions. This provides fellowship trainees with a unique opportunity to gain extensive hands-on experience in the treatments of end-stage heart and lung failure, and to advance their knowledge, experience and technical skills in cardiothoracic transplantation and advanced heart failure management. Cleveland Clinic graduates from this program are amongst the most sought after graduates in the market place, and many alumni of this program have gone on to hold directorships of their program within a few years of graduation and become leaders in the field.
Clinical responsibilities for the 1 year Heart and Lung Transplant Fellowship include:
Preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative experience in heart and lung transplantation and implantable LVADs, including DCD heart and lung donors. The fellowship experience also includes extensive exposure to mechanical circulatory assist devices (including Impella 5.5, veno-arterial, and veno-venous ECMO), and higher risk cardiac operations with reduced LV function. Exposure to heart and lung procurement operations and in-house Ex Vivo Lung Perfusion are included.
