Reports To: Operations Manager and/or Division Manager

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Civil Construction Estimator to play a vital role involving end-to-end responsibility for bids ranging from $1 to $50MM+, starting with initial document review and following through to delivery of complete bid submittals.
Position Summary
As a Heavy Civil Construction Estimator, you will review, analyze, and interpret bid specifications and drawings to create accurate project estimates. You’ll oversee the entire bidding process, from document analysis to submission of comprehensive bid proposals. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
+ Collaborate with clients, vendors, and internal teams to produce detailed project estimates.
+ Prepare comprehensive estimates, including time, cost, labor, and materials, for management planning and decision-making.
+ Analyze project specifications, plans, and geotechnical reports to assess scope, schedule, and risks.
+ Perform accurate quantity takeoffs and identify necessary work activities.
+ Source and procure subcontractors and material suppliers.
+ Develop cost estimates using HCSS Heavy Bid software.
+ Track and pursue potential project opportunities.
+ Monitor project costs and update estimates as needed.
+ Create preliminary project schedules.
+ Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, engineers, and vendors.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
+ Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or equivalent technical training.
+ Minimum of 3–5 years of experience as an Earthwork Estimator.
+ Valid driver’s license.
+ Preferred experience with Agtek, Carlson Civil, or AutoCAD for earthwork takeoffs.

+ Strong technical, analytical, and organizational skills.
+ Proficiency in verbal and written communication.
+ Self-motivated with exceptional attention to detail.
+ Ability to provide excellent customer service and maintain confidentiality.
+ Knowledge of project planning and cost-effective construction methods.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
+ Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl in construction environments.
+ Manual dexterity for handling tools and equipment.
+ Lift and carry materials up to 50 pounds.
+ Ability to work in varied weather conditions for up to 12 hours per day.

***This full-time position will be located at our Greensboro, NC regional office. The Estimator will collaborate with members of our Mid-Atlantic estimating team, focusing primarily on projects in the surrounding region. Short-duration travel may be required on occasion.***
