This is an Interview and Hire position that is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below. Nature of Work: This is an entry level of repair and routine maintenance on motor vehicles, diesel powered equipment and construction/maintenance equipment. This position requires knowledge of basic principles of operation & construction of diesel and gas-powered engines; knowledge of proper use, care and maintenance of various standard hand tools; knowledge of repair and service concepts, principles, testing devices, tools, meters, etc. involved in the repair and servicing of heavy road maintenance equipment. This position will maintain records, prepare reports, and carry out instructions, communicate and work effectively with others. Qualifications Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. Experience: None. Notes: 1. Applicants may substitute documented and relevant experience repairing, servicing and maintaining automobiles, trucks, buses or comparable equipment on a year-for-year basis for the required education. 2. U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as described under the minimum qualifications may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education. 3. Certification as a Technician by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) may be substituted for two years of the required education. (The two years of experience used to qualify for ASE testing is considered an integral part of this substitution and cannot also be considered separately to meet Education Minimum Qualifications.) 4. Certification as a Master Technician by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can be substituted for the required education. Licenses & Certifications Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland. All applicants must list their license number and expiration date on the application. Selected candidate will need to obtain a Class B CDL license within six months of appointment. Employees in this class may be required to obtain Special Commercial Driver's License Endorsements for Hazardous Materials and Tank Vehicles depending on the type of equipment operated.
