Heavy Equipment Mechanic

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic (HEM) works under the guidance of the Team Lead and Supervisor. The HEM will perform schedule / unscheduled repairs, operate and inspect various types commercial equipment ie…Tractors, Graders, Front loaders, Bulldozers, 10/6K Forklifts, Scraper and Riding lawn mower and Military Contruction Equipment; Also some tactical vehicles and non-tactical equipment ie…Ford, Peterbilt, International and Generators, Heating units, Lift controller, ATVs and Sweepers in order to perform troubleshooting actions and diagnose defects; examine parts for damage or excessive wear; repair or replace parts as required; service, repair, rebuild, overhaul and maintain the aforementioned types of equipment, as well as major assemblies and components of that equipment including engines, transmissions, fuel injection systems, hydraulic systems, ignition systems and electrical systems. Responsibilities This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company. MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES: Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on wheeled vehicles and trailers equipment. Inspects, tests, and operates wheeled equipment (commercial and Military) to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation. Services equipment with fuel, oil, water, coolant, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant, and compressed air, disassembles and assembles malfunctioning accessories and components. Removes, disassembles repairs, cleans, treats for corrosion, assembles, and reinstalls components and accessories. Disposes of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal environmental standards and regulations. Operates, cleans, inspects, and services wheeled equipment for maintenance purposes. Practices good housekeeping, property accountability control, Foreign Object Damage prevention and safety at all times. Additional responsibilities include working with a variety of repair and test equipment including Maintenance support Device MSD-V3/V4, pressure testers and electrical testers and various other test equipment. Performs other duties as assigned to meet organizational/operational objectives. Job duties and responsibilities may change due to contractual requirements. MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED: Extensive use of basic shop equipment, disagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, air tools, and lifting devices. Steel Toe shoes are required. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas while work is being conducted. Such PPE includes, but is not limited to:Face Mask, head, foot, hand, vision and hearing protective devices. Periodic use of computer systems and multi-function devices (MFD). WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is generally conducted in a shop environment. However, duties may involve the conduct of work in the outdoors area with a potential exposure to extreme climatic condition. Work requires stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolong sitting and occasional working in cramped and awkward position. Frequent exposure to conditions of inclement weather, extreme heat and cold, high/low humidity, blowing sand and dust, and working in confined spaces and at heights. A normal work week is 40 hours (5 days a week). Must be willing to work additional hours when mission requires. Applicant must furnish their own serviceable, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliant, tools, that are appropriate for their required duties. Tools must meet the OSHA Regulations 1910 Subpar P. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES: Must be able to climb up and down ladders and stairs, as well as bend, twist, and squad for prolonged periods. Must be able to pull, push and lift up to 50 pounds. Function in conditions of inclement weather, extreme heat and cold, high/low humidity, blowing sand and dust, and working in confined spaces and at heights. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: High School Diploma or equivalent. Applicant must furnish their own serviceable, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliant, tools, that are appropriate for their required duties. Tools must meet the OSHA Regulations 1910 Subpar P. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen. Must have a valid State Driver’s License with no restrictions. Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI Tier 1 Public Trust. Must be able to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship, such as a birth certificate or a U.S. Passport. Must be able to maintain driving privileges aboard the Fort Liberty Installation. EXPERIENCE: Three (3) to six (6) years' of experience in wheeled equipment maintenance or equivalent.
