Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Set Pay Rate: $29.21 per hour

SHIFT: 7:30am-4:00pm 

Job Summary:

Performs labor associated with repairing and maintaining heavy equipment. Position requires strong interpersonal skills and compassion and respect for persons with disabilities.

 

Essential Functions:

Comply with all Agency policies and procedures and follow contract specifications Perform all assigned work daily in accordance with contract specifications. Operate and inspect machines or equipment to diagnose defects Determine extent of repairs required for heavy equipment Analyze malfunctions and repair, rebuild, and overhaul heavy equipment Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges Replace worn or broken parts Replace defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions Dismantle and reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools Test overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency Fabricate and weld brackets, handrails, metal support columns, and beams May direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment Use and care for equipment and tools properly and comply with safety procedures Track work orders and verify work completed Order supplies within budget and with supervisor’s approval Attend work regularly according to assigned work schedule Comply with uniform dress code and personal hygiene standards Comply with all security procedures Wear ID badge(s) at all times while performing work under this Contract Attend and participate in in-service training, staff meetings, and other activities to facilitate professional development Work cooperatively with others in a manner which is positive, enthusiastic, respectful and courteous

 

Secondary Functions:

 

Perform inventory Clean and maintain equipment Perform safety training Keep records and provide requested reports Perform other duties and tasks as needed

Physical Abilities Needed to Meet Work Demands:

Ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time Ability to go up and down stairs Ability to get into and out of various motor vehicles Ability to reach above the head, bend, kneel, stoop Ability to lift, carry, and push up to 50 lbs. regularly and over as needed Ability to work in dusty spaces or adverse weather conditions Ability to see details on the floor, above the head, or on surfaces

Other requirements: 

Valid driver’s license from state of residence and ability to drive License must have been valid for at least 3 years Acceptable driving record as determined by Agency’s insurance carrier and by Chimes DC policies and procedures Candidates with disabilities preferred

 

Essential Personnel:

This position is designated as essential.  This means that when the facility is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in this position may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at the facility.

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent preferred Knowledge of maintenance and repair of various types of heavy equipment Training in heavy equipment repair and maintenance preferred Knowledge of safety and environmental requirements associated with tasks performed

Experience:

Experience as heavy equipment mechanic preferred
