Job Description:
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment by conducting quality control analysis to evaluate performance. All efforts must comply with the company's Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
Responsibilities:Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and replace broken or malfunctioning components of machinery and equipment.Repair and maintain the operating condition of industrial production and processing machinery and equipment.Reassemble equipment after completion of inspections, testing, or repairs.Operate newly repaired machinery and equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs.Record repairs and maintenance performed.Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications.Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.Strictly adhere to all Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.Provide assistance throughout the yard as needed.Perform welding tasks.Utilize metal tools such as torches, sanders, grinders, and torque wrenches.Equipment:ForkliftsExcavatorsBackhoeBulldozersGradersTrenchersLoadersPaversCompactorsForklifts

This position is based in a metal recycling plant that processes and sells a variety of materials including steel, aluminum, brass, and copper. The facility is large, with most of it in an open yard and some enclosed production equipment. Located at the Port of Oakland, the role is regularly exposed to all weather conditions and physical hazards such as noise, fumes, and dirt. Safety shoes, hearing protection, respirators, and face shields are required to mitigate these risks. The workload may be unpredictable, especially during peak times, requiring considerable adaptability.
