Heavy Equipment Mechanic
**Job Title: Heavy Equipment Mechanic** **Job Description** We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team. The Mechanic will be responsible for repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment, ensuring all efforts are compliant with company Health, Safety, and Environmental standards. The ideal candidate has 3-5+ years of experience and a strong knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. **Responsibilities** + Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and replace broken or malfunctioning components of machinery and equipment. + Repair and maintain the operating condition of industrial production and processing machinery and equipment. + Reassemble equipment after completion of inspections, testing, or repairs. + Operate newly repaired machinery and equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs. + Record repairs and maintenance performed. + Repair and replace damaged or worn parts. + Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications. + Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles. + Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings. + Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices. + Strictly adhere to all Health, Safety, and Environmental standards. + Provide assistance throughout the yard as needed. + Perform welding tasks. + Use metal tools such as torches, sanders, grinders, and torque wrenches. **Essential Skills** + 3-5+ years of experience working as a Mechanic on heavy equipment. + Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. + Valid driver's license. + Experience with welding. + Proficiency in using metal tools such as torches, sanders, grinders, and torque wrenches. + High school diploma or GED. **Additional Skills & Qualifications** + Experience with heavy equipment, diesel, construction equipment, Caterpillar, Bobcat, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, mechanical, electrical, hydraulics, pneumatics. + Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus. **Why Work Here?** Join a dynamic team in a challenging and rewarding environment. The facility is large, mostly in an open yard with some enclosed production equipment, located at the Port of Oakland. The role involves exposure to all weather conditions, physical hazards such as noise, fumes, and dirt, and requires the use of safety shoes, hearing protection, respirators, and face shields. The workload may be unpredictable, especially during peak times, requiring considerable adaptability and the ability to handle multiple safety and maintenance issues. **Job Type & Location** This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Oakland, California. **Pay and Benefits** The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
